Description TITLE: Project Data & Technology Support Intern, Procurement & Contract Support Intern, and Engineering Support Intern FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt COMPENSATION: Current College Student: $20.73 - $28.58 / Recent College Graduate: $21.77 - $30.00 POSTING DATES: July 10, 2026 - August 7, 2026 ABOUT SGVCOG The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) is a regional government planning agency that aims to maximize the quality of life in the San Gabriel Valley. As a joint powers authority, the SGVCOG represents 31 incorporated cities and unincorporated communities within Los Angeles County Supervisorial Districts 1 and 5. This position will work with the Capital Projects department supporting project management, technology, and procurement efforts

The SGVCOG is in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. Applicants considered for this role must currently live in Southern California or be willing to relocate. The agency does not contribute to relocation or commute costs.

THE POSITION The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) is seeking to fill four (4) part-time Capital Projects Intern positions to support a variety of engineering, project administration, technology, and procurement functions within the Capital Projects department. Interns will gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals while supporting the planning, delivery, and administration of regional infrastructure projects. Depending on their assigned focus area, interns may gain exposure to engineering support, project administration, procurement, records management, technology, and local government operations.

All work will be performed under staff supervision, providing meaningful learning opportunities while contributing to departmental goals. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Internship assignments will be based on departmental needs and the selected candidate's education, interests, and experience. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Engineering & Document Control (2 Positions) Support engineering staff with project documentation, records management, and administrative functions related to capital improvement projects.

Assist with organizing and maintaining project files, technical documentation, and engineering records. Update project tracking spreadsheets and databases. Scan, label, and organize engineering drawings, reports, permits, and correspondence.

Assist with preparing meeting materials, project binders, and supporting documentation. Support engineering staff with research, data collection, and document preparation. Perform general administrative and project support duties as assigned.

Project Technology & Data Support (1 Position) Support project management and administrative functions through data organization, technology, research, and process improvement initiatives. Organize and maintain project data, spreadsheets, electronic files, and tracking systems. Research emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation tools, to support administrative and project management functions.

Assist with testing approved software features and documenting results under staff supervision. Help prepare templates, checklists, dashboards, and reports using Microsoft Excel and other approved software. Assist with documenting department procedures, workflows, and process improvements.

Support project managers with data management, research, and general administrative tasks. Procurement & Contract Support (1 Position) Support procurement and contract administration activities by assisting with document preparation, records management, and administrative functions related to public contracting. Assist with organizing procurement and contract files, records, and supporting documentation.

Maintain procurement tracking logs, contract databases, and project records. Assist with preparing procurement documents, bid packages, and contract-related materials under staff supervision. Support procurement activities by preparing correspondence, scheduling meetings, and organizing procurement records.

Assist with reviewing procurement documents for completeness and compiling supporting documentation for solicitations. Observe procurement and contract administration processes while providing general administrative support to Capital Projects staff. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience: Currently enrolledin orrecently graduated (within the past 12 months) from an accredited college or university with coursework in one of the following areas: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Political Science, Pre-Law or Law, or a closely related field.

Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Desired Qualifications Work experience in a public administration position or working with a non-profit or government entity. Coursework or experience in engineering, project management, procurement, contract administration, document control, records management, or data analysis.

Experience using Microsoft Excel functions, PivotTables, Power Query, Power BI, GIS, SharePoint, or similar software. Familiarity with public infrastructure, construction, transportation, or local government through coursework, internships, volunteer work, or employment. Coursework or experience related to legal research, public contracting, or government procurement is desirable for candidates interested in the Procurement & Contract Support assignment.

Coursework or experience related to data visualization, automation, or emerging technologies is desirable for candidates interested in the Project Technology & Data Support assignment. Knowledge of: Modern office practices and procedures. Microsoft Office applications.

Basic research and report preparation techniques. Basic principles of record keeping and document management. Ability To: Learn and apply new concepts, software, and procedures.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Analyze information and prepare clear summaries. Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

LICENSES Driving is non-essential to this role. Work is primarily office-based with occasional offsite meetings. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a collaborative public agency environment.
