Job Description
The City of Renton is seeking a dedicated and dependable Animal Control Kennel Assistant to support the Police Department's Patrol Services Division. This position performs a variety of physically demanding and customer-focused animal care and control duties, including animal handling, transportation, kennel operations, and recordkeeping. Working independently and collaboratively with team members, the Animal Control Assistant plays an important role in protecting public safety, promoting animal welfare, and delivering responsive service to the community.
***This position is expected to last one year and is scheduled Monday through Thursday at 6.5 hours per day, totaling 26 hours per week
  • Clean and sanitize kennels.
  • Feed and water animals.
  • Transport animals.
  • Work with groups to transfer custody of animals.
  • Remove deceased animals from roads, private property, and other locations.
  • Safely handle aggressive, sick, injured, or diseased animals.
  • Quarantine animals for observation according to established guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of files, records, and reports regarding animal bites, quarantines, investigations, and daily statistics
  • Transport dead animals from the City veterinarian and other locations for rendering; assist in maintaining kennel as assigned.
  • Safely operate and maintain an animal control vehicle; utilize a variety of animal control devices and equipment including leash, muzzle, traps, radio
  • Operate a computer for documentation.
  • Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
  • Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a week-rounded team for coverage purposes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
