Job description

Summary: Staff designated at Dickinson Wright PLLC (โ€œthe Firmโ€) as a Docket Specialist function as part of the IP Administrative team, working with attorneys and staff to manage and maintain clientโ€™s critical deadlines utilizing the firms centralized docket database. This role can be hybrid or fully-remote, but candidate must live in a location where the firm has a physical presence.ย 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities of staff designated as Docket Specialist at the Firm include but are not limited to:

  1. Support clients, attorneys and other staff members by performing an administrative role and handling detail-oriented and critical tasks;
  2. Operate a computer, fax software, copy/scanning machine, telephone;
  3. Maintain electronic files on behalf of clients;
  4. Manage mail and emails from Patent and Trademark Offices, and local Agents;
  5. Receive, analyze and enter critical deadlines in the Firmโ€™s centralized docketing database;
  6. Audit patent and trademark records against publicly available information;
  7. Monitor and clear the critical docket to ensure no deadlines are missed;
  8. Write and execute specialized docket reports;
  9. Process large docketing projects, including new client intakes;
  10. Work as a team to prioritize tasks;
  11. Research foreign and domestic patent and trademark law.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required:

Docket Specialist must:

  1. Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required along with at least 2 years of experience in computerized docket databases for deadline management of trademarks and/or patents;
  2. Experience with CPI and NetDocs preferred, along with working knowledge of domestic and international patent and trademark country law;
  3. Strong experience with Microsoft applications required, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
  4. Experience working in an electronic/remote environment preferred;
  5. Strong analytic, writing and communication skills, attention to detail, with a high level of focus and organization;
  6. Work effectively both independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills, and handle a diverse and high-volume workload in a professional manner;
  8. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, problem solve and work under pressure;
  9. Be willing and able to maintain client confidentiality and exercise good judgement when making decisions and handling certain situations;
  10. Regular and timely attendance at work when scheduled;
  11. Be willing and able to sit at a desk/computer for long periods of time.
