Job description

Job Title: Dock Lead

Reports To: Warehouse Shift Manager


Role overview

Behind every perfectly stocked shelf and every celebration is a great team making it happen. As Dock Lead you'll coach and support a team of warehouse associates while ensuring every shipment is loaded accurately, safely, and on time. From training new team members and enforcing safety standards to overseeing paperwork and maintaining smooth communication with warehouse leadership, you'll play a critical role in keeping our operation running smooth like a well-crafted pour.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead a team of dock workers, providing direction and support.
  • Ensure team members follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct training sessions for new hires and ongoing training for current staff.
  • Oversee the loading of trucks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Inspect and verify the condition of product to be shipped.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery.
  • Report discrepancies, damages, and shortages to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Oversee and be responsible for all paperwork associated with the dock.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and report any hazards or concerns.
  • Communicate effectively with the Warehouse Manager to ensure smooth operations.
  • Operate delivery trucks as needed around the yard.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work within tight time constraints in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements as outlined with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently and follow direction
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices and warehouse safety procedures
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime or extended hours based on operational needs
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines
  • Prior warehouse or distribution center experience
  • Prior experience or certification on power equipment (forklift, pallet jack, reach truck)

PREFERRED

  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Expertise in one or more functional areas within the warehouse
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Familiarity with order-picking systems, conveyor operations, or warehouse management technology


Working conditions

The employee will primarily perform work in a warehouse environment, involving frequent standing, walking, lifting, and operating material-handling equipment. Work areas may be subject to varying temperatures depending on the season.

The noise level in these areas is generally moderate, and proper safety equipment must be worn at all times in accordance with Tryon’s safety guidelines.


Physical requirements

  • Must be able to safely complete lifting up to 30 lbs regularly (15+ loads per hour)
  • Must be able to safely complete lifting up to 50 lbs frequently (10-15 loads per hour)
  • Must be able to safely complete lifting between 75–175 lbs occasionally (1–10 loads per hour)
  • Must be able to stand and walk continually (5–8 hours per day) with occasional sitting (1–4 hours per day)
  • Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, climb, squat, reach, stretch, and perform repetitive hand motions and fine motor tasks frequently to continually (3–8 hours per day)
  • Must be able to safely operate delivery trucks around the yard
  • Must maintain proper lifting posture and always follow all safe work practices
  • Must be physically capable of performing repetitive motion and lifting tasks in a warehouse environment
