We perform installation, rigging, millwrighting, and maintenance for manufacturing and industrial markets across the Southeast.

Job Summary

Southern Industrial Constructors, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager to work out of our Raleigh, NC office. This position would involve overseeing the maintenance of safety programs and procedures to meet performance standards and all appropriate state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Actively promotes and strengthens our core values and culture of Mission First, People Always through everyday actions and decisions
  • Plans, directs and manages all Safety activities performed on multiple jobsites with minimal direction from Corporate or Branch Office Management.
  • Conducts Health and Safety Training Programs and maintain all records as needed for the project.
  • Analyzes all processes, operations, and facilities for hazards and changes, or eliminates the hazards.
  • Assists with/maintains daily STAs (Safety Task Assignments) with all Company work crews on the project
  • Trains and ensures that Company employees maintain compliance with Client's Lockout/Tagout program
  • Performs duties as a scaffolding competent person including: daily inspections of scaffolding and training employees to work on scaffolding
  • Conducts and documents jobsite/facility/crane inspections and audits and reports findings to Corporate and Branch Office Management
  • Provides confined space training as necessary on the project
  • Assists with creating and implementing lift plans for a variety of rigging and crane tasks, including critical lift plans.
  • Provides operator training for equipment including forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, etc.
  • Investigates the causes of all accidents and injuries, and completes reports as required. Uses Accidents/near misses, etc. as training to help prevent future occurrences.
  • Provides jobsite Health and Safety Support/Marketing  
  • Performs New Employee Orientations/hiring for the Branch & satellite project locations
  • Inventories and maintains appropriate quantities of all necessary safety equipment and PPE.
  • Interacts/communicates with the Branch safety director to recommend improvements to safety policies and procedures based on periodic site audits. Coordinates with all functional areas within the Branch to assure safety, security, physical and environmental issues and procedures are fully understood and executed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous industrial onsite safety experience.
  • OSHA 30 required, OSHA 500 / 510 highly preferred
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
Work Environment

Conditions include working in office, shop, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safely access all areas of property, buildings, structures, wharves, rooftops and other elevated positions, as well as, confined spaces.  Must be able to effectively use all required PPE equipment and lift up to fifty pounds. Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform the essential functions associated with this position. Must be able to safely operate all involved equipment and tools.  Must be capable of standing for long periods of time, bending consistently, working in confined spaces with limited access, on ladders, in personnel lifts, in workboats, and working in awkward body positions.
