Job Description
Reporting Structure:
The ELL Secretary/Paras reports to the ELL Para Trainer and Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction of the Wayne Township Adult Education Program.
Performance Agreement:
The Wayne Township Adult Education (WTAE) ELL Classroom Para will perform all aspects of the communicated job description. This employee will effectively meet performance expectations of the MSD of Wayne Township. Formal performance evaluation will be conducted annually.
Purpose: To provide academic and functional assistance to all students, including those with disabilities, as directed by a teacher in one-to-one or small group settings; performs clerical work and specific job functions as directed by the teacher and Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Helping create a welcoming environment: Para is responsible for helping students feel welcome, staffing the desk, taking attendance, and greeting students.
  • With direct supervision from a teacher, provides assistance in implementing plans and programs related to the academic or functional skill attainment for students with language barriers, mental, physical, and/or emotional learning challenges.
  1. Paraprofessional communicates and collaborates on a daily basis with assigned teacher. Examples include: Planning student activities, lessons, and/or discussing high needs or areas for improvement.
  1. Provides academic and physical assistance to students with disabilities if applicable and as directed, in one to-one or in small group settings. (Follows and implements student' IEP-if applicable.)
  1. Facilitates teacher instruction, and learning by providing one-on-one student assistance or guidance to better comprehend lesson material/activity etc.
  1. Assists teacher in implementing the lesson plan as need be, prepares student work/copies and/or assignments as deemed necessary by teacher.
  1. Create online learning platform logins for Typing.com and/or USA Learns
  1. Assists students with the use of media equipment, augmentative communication devices, and computer log in techniques and distance learning accounts for in class use and distance learning.
  1. Assists teachers by entering class attendance into Connectable and tracks student tardies.
  1. (Offsites) Organizes and implements the ELL intake and registration process; including following testing procedure, preparing testing tickets, emails results to teachers/students, filing in Connectable, and classroom placement.
  1. Keeps all student records confidential for students; releasing information only with a release.
  1. Provides clerical support to teacher and/or Coordinator
  1. Provides student TABE CLAS-C/D review focusing on key areas to increase chance for student NRS GAIN.
  1. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the assigned.
