This position is ideal for a lawyer who wants direct client contact, practical litigation experience, and work that has a real impact on working people and their families. Employees often contact us when their careers, income, reputations, and dignity are on the line. They may be dealing with workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, unpaid wages, medical leave violations, or a termination that should not have happened.
As part of our employee-side employment law team, you will help clients understand their rights, evaluate the strength of their claims, prepare administrative charges and legal filings, communicate with opposing parties and agencies, and push cases toward meaningful results. You will be expected to take ownership, stay organized, communicate clearly, and help move files forward with urgency and care.
This is a hands-on attorney role. You will learn by doing, with support from experienced litigators who know how to build employment cases from intake through resolution. The right candidate does not need to come in as an employment law expert. We are looking for someone with strong judgment, persuasive communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the drive to become an excellent advocate for employees.

Responsibilities
• Serve employees throughout Toledo, Northwest Ohio, and surrounding communities in workplace-rights matters.
• Conduct detailed client meetings to identify key facts, timelines, documents, witnesses, damages, and potential legal claims.
• Analyze workplace disputes involving discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unpaid wages, FMLA violations, disability accommodations, and other employee-rights issues.
• Prepare administrative filings with the EEOC and state civil rights agencies, including factual summaries, legal claim framing, and supporting exhibits.
• Build case files by organizing evidence, reviewing employment records, identifying missing information, and developing next-step action plans.
• Communicate with clients in a practical, steady, and compassionate way so they understand where their case stands and what comes next.
• Work with agency investigators, opposing counsel, employers, witnesses, and internal team members to advance claims efficiently.
• Draft demand letters, position statement responses, settlement materials, pleadings, discovery requests, discovery responses, and other case documents.
• Participate in settlement discussions, mediations, and negotiations aimed at achieving strong outcomes for clients.
• Support litigation strategy by helping evaluate liability, damages, credibility issues, defenses, comparators, policy violations, and potential pretext.
• Assist with deposition preparation, witness outlines, discovery review, motion support, and trial preparation.
• Manage deadlines, client updates, agency communications, and case tasks with urgency and strong attention to detail.
Qualifications
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Active Ohio law license, pending Ohio bar results, or ability to become licensed in Ohio promptly.
• Strong interest in representing employees, workers, and individuals-not corporations or insurance companies.
• Ability to evaluate facts carefully and identify potential legal issues from messy real-world situations.
• Clear, persuasive writing skills for charges, letters, pleadings, discovery, and settlement materials.
• Professional confidence when speaking with clients, agencies, opposing counsel, witnesses, and internal team members.
• Strong listening skills and the ability to work with clients who may be angry, scared, embarrassed, or overwhelmed.
• Dependable follow-through, strong organization, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Willingness to learn the nuts and bolts of employment litigation, including administrative filings, discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial preparation.
• Sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to give practical advice without losing compassion.
• Self-motivated work style with the discipline to move cases forward without constant prompting.
• Prior work in employment law, civil rights, plaintiff-side litigation, agency practice, or courtroom advocacy is helpful, but not required.
