Disability Project Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Disability Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Disability Project Manager, you need expertise in project management, a strong understanding of disability policies, and relevant qualifications such as a degree in social sciences or project management certification. Familiarity with project management tools (like MS Project or Trello), accessibility standards, and compliance regulations is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills help build inclusive teams and ensure project success. These skills are crucial for effectively delivering accessible solutions and advocating for the needs of people with disabilities within complex projects.

What is a Disability Project Manager?

A Disability Project Manager is a professional who oversees projects aimed at improving accessibility, inclusion, and support for people with disabilities. Their responsibilities may include planning and implementing initiatives, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and managing budgets and timelines. They often work in organizations focused on disability services, government agencies, or private companies to enhance accessibility and promote equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

What are some common challenges Disability Project Managers face when coordinating accessible project deliverables?

Disability Project Managers often navigate the complexities of ensuring that all project deliverables meet accessibility standards while balancing stakeholder expectations, tight deadlines, and resource limitations. A key challenge is effectively communicating the importance of accessibility to team members who may not be familiar with disability inclusion practices. Additionally, Disability Project Managers must frequently coordinate with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and compliance officers, to ensure all accessibility requirements are implemented and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

Hanson, an integrated marketing agency focused on technology-enabled solutions, is seeking a Project Manager to lead complex, dependency-driven web development projects in close partnership with engineering teams.

This role partners closely with developers, creatives and strategists to deliver high-quality digital experiences. The ideal candidate is confident in building adaptive project plans, aligning teams and clients, and leveraging modern tools (including AI) to drive efficient, high-impact execution to deliver work on time, on budget and within scope.

If you have experience leading web development projects and are a curious, organized problem-solver who embraces new technologies and continuously evolving ways of working, we’d love to talk.

This position reports to our Director of Project Management.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of technical project plans, ensuring work is on time, on budget, within scope, and aligned with strategic and performance objectives
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for project health, proactively identifying risks, removing obstacles and driving solutions
  • Manage dependencies across front-end, back-end and systems integrations
  • Sequence work across development environments (dev, staging, prod)
  • Facilitate clear, consistent communication across internal teams and clients, translating business needs into actionable plans, priorities and workflows
  • Own project planning and resourcing; maintaining accurate timelines, budgets and project data
  • Use AI tools to support estimation, documentation and risk tracking in technical workflows
  • Drive alignment and momentum by leading meetings, setting expectations and ensuring next steps are clearly defined and executed
  • Identify risks and blockers early, provide mitigation strategies, and escalate issues with appropriate context and urgency
  • Partner with Account Management and Operations to manage scope changes, validate impacts and communicate updates to teams and clients
  • Uphold and reinforce Hanson’s processes and methods, including documentation standards, process consistency and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to a strong client experience by anticipating needs, managing expectations and addressing challenges with urgency and transparency
  • Help shape and refine agency processes, supporting adoption and maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events and partner engagements as needed

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in project management at an agency, consulting or similarly fast-paced, client-facing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional digital projects with multiple stakeholders and evolving requirements
  • Strong understanding of how to manage web-specific components and artifacts such as API integrations, CMS implementations, technical requirements documentation, acceptance criteria, etc.
  • Experience with digital, marketing or technology-driven projects (e.g., websites, CMS, CRM, eCommerce platforms such as Sitefinity, Optimizely, Contentful, Webflow, or WordPress)
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead discussions, influence decisions and “say what matters” clearly and constructively
  • Proven track record of problem-solving, adaptability and sound judgment in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while maintaining a clear view of overall project goals and business impact
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, ClickUp, or similar)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and adapt to different working styles and personalities
  • Ability to calmly prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks/projects with flexibility, keeping others continuously updated on plans and progress
  • We value skills and qualities above all else, but a degree or certifications (PMP, CAPM, scrum) are a plus

What we offer

  • Hybrid work environment (primarily remote with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays; candidates must live within ~50 miles of Toledo, OH and be able to attend occasional team/client meetings)
  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Group life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • 401(k) + Employer Match
  • Paid holidays, including paid time off between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day
  • Paid birthday day off
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) and Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)

We are currently working in a hybrid work-from-home and in-office model, so you’ll be collaborating with Hanson teams in person and/or via Microsoft Teams, Slack and email.

Hanson is an equal opportunity employer. We hire qualified professionals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age or any other status protected by applicable law.
