GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY This is a 9-month, full-time position. The Instructor of Steel Industry Technology provides high-quality instruction, curriculum development, and industry engagement to prepare students for successful careers in the steel production and fabrication fields.
This role combines classroom teaching, hands-on lab training, and workforce partnership development to ensure students gain the technical knowledge, certifications, and practical skills required by today's steel industry. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction, maintain industry relevance, and contribute to program development aligned with employer needs and national standards in steelmaking and metallurgical processes. Minimum Qualifications Required: Associate's degree in Steel Production, Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or other related fields. OR 10 years of work experience in related fields. Or Journeyman/Journey-certified steelworker with equivalent years of relevant experience.
Job Duties and Other Information Position-Specific Duties: Deliver/support instruction in steelmaking technologies and materials evaluation. Engage with local steel industry partners for advisory input and workforce development. Support efforts to develop and revise related curricula, as needed.
FULL TIME FACULTY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The following constitutes an employment agreement between the college and faculty member and is contingent upon student enrollment and the authority provided by the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS). Faculty member agrees to fulfill the following responsibilities. I.
TEACHING AND DIRECT INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES 1. Perform all instructional responsibilities in accordance with the role, scope, and mission of the College. 2.
Adhere to designated schedule of classes and office hours. 3. Attend and provide meaningful instruction for all class sessions during the semester.
Be punctual in class attendance and provide instruction for the complete class period. Make appropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to campus policies. 4.
Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning and one in which all students are treated equitably and with respect. 5. Develop, distribute, and explain to all students within the first week of class, the course outline, the expectations of the course, the standards upon which students will be evaluated, the grading system, the attendance policy, safety policies, classroom management policies, and other information as deemed appropriate for students and the course.
6. Ensure that adequate time is devoted to class preparation such that class time is maximized to the benefit of the students and that content is up-to-date and presented in a professional manner. 7.
Utilize a variety of teaching and assessment methods/instruments, which provide for the differences in learning styles of students, while covering the approved curriculum guide. 8. Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation instruments in a college-approved grade book format and file records in a timely fashion.
(Evaluation instruments are to be maintained for at least three years.) 9. Utilize technology as approved/required by the college (i.e. Student Information System, Learning Management System, discipline specific programs/platforms) II
SERVICE TO STUDENTS, DEPARTMENT, DIVISION OR COLLEGE, COMMUNITY 10. Contribute to the assessment of program student learning outcomes and the implementation of strategies to improve teaching and learning based on analysis of assessment results. 11.
Participate in the review, development, and revision of discipline-specific curriculum, as needed. 12. Serve as a resource for students in the pursuit of employment or advanced educational opportunities related to the teaching discipline.
Support the collection of student-specific information related to job placement and/or academic achievement and matriculation, as applicable based on teaching discipline. 13. Support the dissemination of information to prospective students and the community related to RPCC programs of study aligned with teaching discipline.
14. Support student success through academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and other student support services, as applicable based on teaching discipline. 15.
Attend/participate in the RPCC Commencement Ceremony. Attend/participate in graduation/pinning ceremonies, as applicable/assigned. 16.
Participate in teaching discipline specific program advisory committee meetings, as applicable. 17. Demonstrate commitment to effective communication by utilizing official tools for timely dissemination of information to students and supervisors, and by being proactive and responsive in addressing inquiries and needs from students and coworkers.
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 18. Participate in college in-service program(s), professional development opportunities, and college/state meetings, as applicable/assigned.
19. In collaboration with supervisor, develop and follow-through on an individualized professional development plan each academic year. 20.
Complete all academic and occupational credential requirements as defined by LCTCS Board policies and procedures, as well as requirements defined by accrediting agencies. 21. Complete all College, system, and state mandated training in a timely manner.
IV. LEADERSHIP (As Applicable) Refer to expectations outlined in the approved contract and/or job description related to additional duties assignments including the following roles: division coordinator, department chair, faculty coordinator, lead faculty member, program director, and other established faculty leadership roles. Adhere to all RPCC and LCTCS policies and procedures. 23. Perform other duties assigned by college/campus administrators, as applicable.
24. Always represent the College in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image. Note: All faculty are expected to work a 40-hour week.
