Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DIRECTOR, SECURITY AND RESILIENCE

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Security and Resilience, the Director serves as a member of EEI’s Industry Operations division and is responsible for leading a broad range of activities central to the security and resilience of the electric power system. The Director, Security and Resilience provides leadership to advance the strategic and operational interests of EEI’s members in the areas of energy security, grid resilience, and military partnerships.

  • Monitor, analyze, and develop policy positions on a variety of regulatory and operational issues affecting the electric power industry, including cyber and physical security, supply chain security, and other emerging grid security and resilience issues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on a range of national security issues and lead critical member-centric workstreams, including EEI’s Security and Resilience Executive Advisory Committee and Security Working Group.
  • Proactively engage in resilience activities with DOE, CISA, and other organizations on behalf of EEI members.
  • Contribute to the development of member positions on key issues, working in close collaboration with EEI’s Government Relations, Communications, and Legal and Policy teams.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with federal agencies, sector coordinating bodies, and other key stakeholders to support EEI’s member priorities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Security and Resilience team and the broader Industry Operations division, sharing expertise and contributing to a high-performing, collegial team environment.
  • Support positive working relationships across the three Industry Operations pillars and with other EEI divisions, particularly Government Relations, Communications, and Legal and Policy teams, to align research and policy positions with advocacy and messaging.
  • In coordination with the Managing Director, contribute to divisional planning efforts, workstream prioritization, and the preparation of materials for senior leadership and member stakeholders.
COMPENSATION

The salary range for this role is $130,000 – $175,000. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. EEI also offers an annual performance incentive which is prorated for mid‑year start dates. This incentive is typically up to 10% of the base salary.

We offer a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, tuition assistance, wellness incentives and programs, transportation subsidy, and professional development opportunities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10-12 years of relevant experience in critical infrastructure security, with a focus on energy security, national security, and cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal and other regulatory processes affecting the electric utility industry.
  • Exceptional judgment, integrity, and discretion in managing sensitive and high‑impact matters.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including member executives, policymakers, and regulators.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams, influence without direct authority, and coordinate complex multi‑stakeholder workstreams.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10–15% for EEI member events, meetings, and conferences.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DEMANDS

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EEI is committed to providing a productive and safe environment. To achieve that goal, we conduct background and reference check investigations for all final applicants being considered for employment. Equal Opportunity Employment M/D/F/V.
