Job description

Job Objective:

To provide exceptional customer service in a specialty retail environment focused on curated, preowned formal and special occasion apparel. This role is responsible for providing a personalized shopping experience, assisting customers in selecting high quality formalwear, and maintaining boutique standards. Beyond sales, the Consultant supports mission driven resale operations including intake, merchandising, and inventory care and assists with general retail store operations as needed. This position reports tothe Store Manager who evaluates performance annually.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide expert styling and personalized service by assisting customers in selecting formalwear for proms, galas, weddings, and pageants, offering professional recommendations on fit and accessories.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive boutique atmosphere by greeting and engaging visitors warmly to ensure a high quality shopping experience.
  • Accurately operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to process transactions, returns, and store credits while meeting sales goals through product knowledge, personalized service and suggestive selling.
  • Execute inventory intake and quality control by inspecting donated or consigned formalwear for condition and cleanliness according to established acceptance guidelines.
  • Maintain visually appealing boutique standards by organizing floor displays, ensuring fitting rooms are shopper ready, and implementing merchandising plans that reflect current trends.
  • Perform garment preparation and care, including steaming, tagging, and labeling items according to boutique standards to highlight high quality inventory.
  • Manage inventory tracking and stock rotation, assisting with pricing and periodic inventory counts as directed by management.
  • Contribute to digital marketing efforts by collaborating with the Marketing Team to produce social media content that showcases boutique inventory.
  • Ensure operational excellence by following all store policies, safety standards, and loss prevention practices, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide versatile team support by cross training store personnel to assist in the boutique, performing additional duties in the general retail store area and collaborating with team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Education and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or the ability to obtain through The Excel Center.
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly, professional demeanor and the confidence to work one on one with customers.
  • Previous experience in a retail or boutique environment with knowledge of formalwear brands and sizing.
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail.
  • A genuine interest in fashion and alignment with the mission of nonprofit, sustainable resale.
  • Proficiency in using industrial garment steamers, tagging guns, and basic POS inventory management software.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok for content creation.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.
Qualifications:
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Flexible availability.
  • Able to frequently bend, twist, reach above shoulder level, push and pull, crouch or stoop, kneel, repetitively use feet, and use head and neck in a twisting or static motion and to look up and/or down, and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
