RESIDENCY:Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application:
- Livingston County or New York State
The work involves the routine care of residents/patients in accordance with a detailed and well-defined patient care plan. Assignments concerning resident/patient care are specifically provided with limited leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision of subordinates will vary with the type of facility providing the resident/patient services. In the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direct supervision of a higher-level nursing position. A Licensed Practical Nursed does related work as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Prepares, administers, and records medications according to the physician's order and medication policies of the facility;
- Carries out uncomplicated therapeutic treatments such as giving enemas, preparing and applying simple dressings, and administering certain medications in accordance with established policy;
- May assist in or actively implement the nursing care plan for residents/patients;
- May take the temperature, note the rate of pulse and respiration, and observe and record other signs and symptoms as directed;
- Collects specimens and obtains cultures and assists in carrying out diagnostic procedures under supervision;
- Assists in the admission and discharge of patients;
- Assists residents/patients in performing ambulation exercises and maintaining proper joint motion;
- Cares for equipment used in care of residents/patients as directed; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices; working knowledge of hospital sanitation and personal hygiene; ability to carry out therapeutic treatments prescribed; ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to keep accurate, clear, legible records and make reports; ability to get along well with residents/patients and others; ability to reach, bend, etc.; mental alertness; cheerfulness; good moral character; patience; emotional stability; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Training/Education
- Graduation from a nursing education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
- Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department as licensure qualifying no more than 90 days prior to submission of an application for employment.

- Licensed by New York State to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Submission to the New York State Department of Education of the Application for Licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse, the Application for Limited Permit, and paid the required fees.

Supplemental Information
- Must be able to reach, bend, etc. to provide patient care.
- Appropriate professional licensure must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
- Applicants appointed under Option 2 must obtain licensure from the New York State Department of Education within 90 days of graduation from the nursing education program to be eligible for continuing employment.
NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
