) POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing ("DON") is responsible for the overall management, supervision, and direction of the nursing services department. The DON implements and maintains nursing department goals and objectives, ensures compliance with current standards of nursing practice, company policy and procedure, as well as applicable federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 Manages, supervises, and directs all functions of the nursing services department.
 Ensures compliance with current standards of nursing practice, company policies and procedures, and Federal, State, and Local guidelines and regulations.
 Effectively collaborates with the medical staff and other departments to coordinate all aspects of patient care.
 Identify clinical problems and implement plan of corrections and action plans as needed.
 Review and investigate patient, family, and staff concerns; Takes actions to resolve and prevent future occurrences.
 Participate in recruitment, selection, and hiring process of quality nursing staff.
 Effectively manages turnover in the nursing department.
 Provides leadership and provides regular feedback to staff on performance; completes employee performance appraisals in a timely manner.
 Oversees nursing department scheduling and staffing needs in accordance with budgeted hours per patient day (HPPD).
 Promotes the center's education program; participates in and enforces the center's orientation process.
 Evaluate and manage nursing services in relation to specific objects and cost controls.
 Oversees the implementation and maintenance of the center's infection prevention and control program.
 Routinely review clinical processes to promote positive patient outcomes.
 Participates and provides leadership in the Quality Assurance program.
 Attends corporate level education programs as necessary.
 Performs other duties as necessary for the successful operation of the business.
JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF NURSING 2 of 2 REVISED 05/2023 PREREQUISITES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
 Long Term Care experience 5 years or more
 Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred.
 Active, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
 Ability to lead diverse team of individuals.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Strong ability to make independent decisions and work without direct supervision.
 Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government personnel, and the public.
 Must have thorough knowledge of current standards of nursing practice.
 Must have a thorough understanding of the survey process and quality measures.
 Must be knowledgeable of computer systems and applications.
 Excellent customer service focus.
