VOA Oklahoma is currently seeking a Director of Accounting to join our team in Tulsa, Oklahoma! Volunteers of America is one of the nation's largest comprehensive human services organizations with 16,000 mission-driven professionals, dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.
What You Will Do
The Director of Accounting reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for collaboratively directing with the CFO regarding the accounting functions of the organization in accordance with and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and other state and federal regulatory agencies' oversight requirements. Additionally, the Director of Accounting will support the Chief Financial Officer and the President/Chief Executive Officer in preparing accurate reporting of the financial position of the organization for the Board of Directors through the Finance and Audit Committees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparing financial statements, journal entries, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate month-end close.
  • Coordinate closely with HR/Payroll to ensure complete, accurate, and properly coded payroll data.
  • Work in various EHR, EPR, and other software to review billing coding.
  • Review and reconcile bank statements and trains as a backup for all finance and accounting positions.
  • Oversee/perform a reconciliation of all balance sheets and selected statement of activity accounts monthly.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely revenue maximization and control, billing, budgeting, expense management, and risk management.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to the CFO.
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating monthly and year round processes with internal staff, external financial auditors, and program auditors.
  • Learn and oversee the housing and payee accounting system.
  • Setting strategic direction for the Finance Department in collaboration with the CFO.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with at least 3 to 5 years of experience as an Assistant Director of Accounting, Director of Accounting, Assistant Controller, Controller, or Comptroller with continuously progressive leadership and expertise.
  • Pro-active and quick learner with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex, and busy environment.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to work with others to achieve team results.
  • Expertise in accounting (including fund accounting), financial planning and control, purchasing, contracting, budgeting, general administration, and management.
  • Expertise in Federal and State contracting, accounting standards, and adherence.
  • Experience with setting up and integrating new accounting software. Adept in accounting software use and management.
  • Expert user of MS Excel.
  • Must have and maintain a working telephone contact number.
