GENERAL SUMMARY


The Manager of Logistics is responsible for leading the daily transportation, dispatch, and rail logistics operations for Sunrock. This position oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of aggregate product deliveries while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation operations. This position is also responsible for overseeing transportation and logistics support for Sunrock’s Contracting division, including asphalt hauling operations, coordination of internal and third-party trucking resources, and ensuring efficient execution of paving and contracting projects.


The Manager of Logistics provides leadership to dispatch personnel, transportation staff, and logistics operations while partnering closely with Operations, Sales, Maintenance, Customer Service, Finance, Contracting, and executive leadership to optimize fleet utilization, improve customer service, and support the company's strategic initiatives. The incumbent must practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgement and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 10-12 hour days, and Saturdays as required. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) may be required. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Ready Mix and Logistics, this position serves as a key operational leader and collaborates regularly with the Chief Operating Officer on transportation performance, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


SAFETY


1. Champion Sunrock’s commitment to safety by ensuring compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA, NCDOT, and applicable regulatory requirements.
2. Promote a culture of safety through coaching, communication, and accountability.
3. Conduct regular safety meetings and training.
4. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses while implementing corrective actions.
5. Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe work practices.
6. Ensure all transportation personnel receive required safety training.

DISPATCH & SCALEHOUSE OPERATIONS


1. Lead the daily transportation and dispatch operations to ensure timely delivery of products while maximizing fleet utilization.
2. Oversee dispatch scheduling based on production capacity, customer demand, equipment availability, and delivery priorities.
3. Manage company fleet utilization while coordinating third-party hauling resources as needed.
4. Develop transportation plans that maximize efficiency while minimizing transportation costs.
5. Monitor driver productivity and dispatch performance through established KPI’s.
6. Troubleshoot transportation issues and proactively resolve service interruptions.
7. Coordinate with Operations and Sales to ensure customer delivery expectations are met.
8. Participate in dispatch operations during periods of increased workload when necessary.
9. Ensure compliance with NCDOT regulations and company transportation policies.

RAIL LOGISTICS


1. Oversee rail transportation planning and execution.
2. Coordinate rail shipments while maximizing railcar utilization.
3. Serve as the primary point of contact with railroad partners regarding transportation issues.
4. Monitor customer inventory levels and coordinate replenishment schedules.
5. Coordinate emergency transportation solutions when rail delays occur.
6. Ensure Bills of Lading and shipping documentation are completed accurately.
7. Track rail logistics performance and identify opportunities for process improvements.

CONTRACTING & ASPHALT OPERATIONS


1. Oversee daily logistics activities supporting Sunrock’s Contracting division, including asphalt hauling operations.
2. Coordinate company and third-party trucking resources to support paving and construction projects.
3. Partner with Contracting Operations to ensure timely delivery of asphalt and materials to active job sites.
4. Develop transportation plans that optimize truck utilization and minimize downtime during paving operations.
5. Monitor hauling performance, production schedules, and project demands to ensure efficient execution of contracting work.
6. Collaborate with plant operations and field leadership to proactively address transportation constraints and changing project needs.
7. Support strategic growth initiatives related to Contracting transportation capabilities and fleet expansion.

LEADERSHIP


1. Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the logistics and dispatch team.
2. Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain high-performing employees.
3. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.

COMPLIANCE

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


1. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, Business, Construction Management, or related field.
2. A minimum of five to eight years of progressive transportation, logistics, dispatch, fleet management, or supply chain experience.
3. Minimum three years of leadership or supervisory experience.
4. Experience leading dispatch operations.
5. Knowledge of NCDOT and FMCSA regulations.
6. Strong Microsoft Office skills.
7. Rail logistics experience preferred.
8. Experience in construction materials, aggregates, mining, asphalt, ready-mix, transportation, or heavy industrial operations preferred.
9. Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, or logistics software preferred.
10. Lean or Continuous Improvement experience preferred.
