About the Role:
Oklahoma City University is seeking an experienced relationship-builder to lead fundraising efforts for the School of Law. This role offers the opportunity to engage alumni, donors, attorneys, judges, foundations, corporations, and community leaders while advancing a law school deeply connected to Oklahoma's legal community and civic life.
As Sr. Director of Development for Law, you'll be a member of the OCU Advancement team, partnering closely with the Dean and School of Law leadership while advancing fundraising priorities that support the school's mission and strategic goals. In this role, you'll lead the fundraising and engagement efforts that support the School of Law's strategic priorities. OCU Law's location in the heart of downtown places it steps away from courthouses, law firms, government agencies, and many of the organizations its graduates serve every day.
This position is well suited for a self-directed professional who thrives on relationship-building, enjoys working toward ambitious goals, and is motivated by the impact philanthropy can have on students and institutions. The Sr. Director reports to the Vice President for University Advancement and partners closely with the Dean of the School of Law and other members of the Advancement team to advance the school's fundraising priorities.
What You'll Do: As Sr. Director of Development for Law, you'll manage a portfolio of approximately 150 donors and prospects while leading cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for major gifts that support the School of Law's priorities and strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Building and managing relationships with alumni, donors, corporations, foundations, and community partners
- Conducting meaningful donor visits and developing strategies to advance relationships toward philanthropic support
- Identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects
- Collaborating with the Dean, faculty, and university leadership on fundraising priorities and initiatives
- Developing proposals, gift agreements, and donor communications
- Planning and executing regional and national travel to engage alumni and prospective donors
- Maintaining accurate donor records and activity reports within NXT Raiser's Edge
- Representing the School of Law and Oklahoma City University at events and donor engagements
What We're Looking For: Successful candidates will bring strong interpersonal skills, sound professional judgment, and a track record of building relationships that lead to meaningful outcomes. Preferred qualifications include:
- Four or more years of experience in fundraising, development, donor relations, sales, business development, account management, client relationship management, or a related field
- Demonstrated success building and maintaining professional relationships
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
- Professional judgment and discretion in handling confidential information
- Willingness for some travel and to participate in occasional evening and weekend events
- Experience with metrics and working within a CRM for constituent relationship management
- Experience working with attorneys, law firms, legal organizations, alumni associations, or other professional communities is helpful.
- Familiarity with the legal profession is valued; however, a Juris Doctor (JD) or legal background is not required.
Why Oklahoma City University: At OCU, you'll find meaningful work, supportive colleagues, and a benefits package designed to support you and your family throughout your career. Highlights include:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with significant university premium contributions
- University-paid life and long-term disability insurance
- Retirement plan with university matching contributions up to 5%
- Generous paid time off and 16.5 paid holidays annually
- Summer hours schedule with offices closed on Fridays during the summer
- Tuition remission opportunities for employees and eligible dependents attending OCU
- Participation in Tuition Exchange and CIC Tuition Exchange programs, providing eligible dependent children access to scholarship opportunities at participating institutions nationwide
- Flexible spending and health savings account options
- Employee assistance and wellness resources
- Professional development opportunities
Located in the heart of Oklahoma City, OCU combines the energy of a thriving metropolitan area with the close-knit culture of a university community where individual contributions are valued and recognized.
