Director of Risk Management

Overview
We seek an experienced and proactive Director of Risk Management to lead patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction strategies for a 350-bed acute care hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. This key leadership position oversees the hospital’s risk management program, ensuring that all activities support safe, high-quality patient care and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

The Director serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership and department directors, leading risk assessment, claim management, incident review, and process improvement initiatives. The role is instrumental in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate all risk management and patient safety initiatives for the hospital.

  • Oversee claim management functions, including investigation, documentation, and resolution tracking.

  • Conduct proactive risk assessments for new services, programs, and operational processes.

  • Facilitate root cause analyses and ensure effective implementation of corrective action plans.

  • Manage the Patient Safety Council and integrate corporate and facility risk reduction strategies.

  • Analyze incident trends and develop data-driven recommendations for improvement.

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to minimize risk exposure and ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agencies.

  • Provide education, consultation, and guidance to leadership and staff on risk mitigation, patient safety, and compliance issues.

  • Serve as a key liaison for regulatory surveys and accreditation activities related to risk and safety.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.

    • Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Two (2) to five (5) years of hospital-based risk management experience required; acute care experience preferred.

    • Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in a related field preferred.

    • Registered Nurse (RN) background preferred.

  • License/Certification:

    • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulations, risk management principles, and patient safety frameworks.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and administrative teams.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $104,620 – $134,412 (commensurate with experience).

  • Full-time, exempt position.
