Job description

Position Summary

This position will lead our commercial expansion in North America. Beyond traditional sales, this position will be responsible for building the market for Ormat's Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) technology.

This position will act as a pioneer, educating key stakeholders and creating the commercial infrastructure necessary to close large-scale projects valued at $100M+. The position will report directly to the VP of EGS and play a pivotal role in establishing Ormat as the leader in the geothermal energy transition.

Essential Functions

  • Market Creation & Education: Actively "build the market" by educating utilities, industrial energy users, and regulators on the benefits and bankability of EGS technology.
  • Relationship & Pipeline Development: Identify and engage EGS developers, geothermal startups, project developers, and strategic partners and pursue large-scale project opportunities, taking them from initial concept to final contract.
  • End-to-End Deal Leadership: Lead opportunities from first contact through qualification, commercial structuring, proposal, negotiation, and signature;
  • Oil & Gas Integration: Leverage deep connections in the Oil & Gas sector to identify synergies, such as repurposing assets or applying drilling expertise to geothermal applications.
  • Ecosystem Building: Develop strategic partnerships with EPC firms, drilling contractors, and financial institutions to create a "total solution" for customers.
  • Policy & Advocacy: Work with the VP EGS to influence industry standards and take advantage of federal and state incentives (e.g., IRA).

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • B.Sc. in Engineering, Geosciences, or related field. MBA is a plus.
  • 10+ years in Business Development or Sales, with a proven track record of launching new technologies or opening new markets in the energy sector.
  • Experience in closing infrastructure-scale deals valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • Strong roots in Oil & Gas and/or Power Generation are essential.
  • Ability to see the "big picture" and articulate the value of a new technology to skeptical, traditional stakeholders.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills. A master communicator who can build trust and maintain C-level relationships over long development cycles.
  • Commercial, Contracts & Negotiation: Strong understanding of commercial contracts and proven negotiation skills; ability to partner effectively with legal while owning commercial outcomes.
  • Financial Expertise: Deep understanding of Project Finance, energy economics, and deal structuring for $100M+ assets.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to perform the job duties safely and efficiently 
  • Ability to travel up to 75%
