Job description

Reporting to the Vice President of Merchandising and Supply Chain, the successful candidate will be accountable for the development and execution of the Dining, Bedroom and Outdoor categories. This position will have direct “ownership” of the specified categories with responsibility for the Assortment development, sourcing, negotiations, merchandising, marketing, and financial performance.


  • The development and execution of a robust assortment plan and strategy on an ongoing basis to achieve financial targets 
  • Developed negotiating skills appropriate for engagement with vendors at all levels of management to achieve best in class terms and market positioning.
  • Ongoing market intelligence and category review. This position is responsible to analyze and understand the competitive retail market relative to the product portfolio, understand North American market trends, identify new business opportunities, and to ensure a competitive product assortment. 
  • Supply Chain and Inventory accountability, working with the Inventory Control function. This includes the responsibility, for promotional in stock positions, product demand forecasting, producttransitions and maintenance of clearance inventory. 
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of retail store inventory and display plan. 
  • Creation and Implementation of Marketing material and offers for the Portfolio. This includes all product content and pricing and significant collaboration with the Marketing department for all marketing events and media including Digital. 
  • Store Merchandising review – inspect what is expected with signage, display, price tags, stack outs, product etc. 
  • Financial accountability including the analysis, comprehension and reporting of Sales data profitability and inventory performance for the Product portfolio. 
  • Development and implementation of Product Knowledge training information nationally. 

  • Excellent Communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Highly knowledgeable in the Canadian industry and retail markets 
  • Highly developed time management and organizational skills 
  • Ability to travel as required
  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education an asset

Education & Experience Required

  • Must be articulate, assertive and possess solid communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Minimum 5 years retail industry experience required, ideally being able to understand and build product from scratch to suit The Brick, inventory management understanding.
  • Previous product Merchandising experience an asset.
  • Well connected within the industry
  • Must be able to build working relationships with vendors and colleagues
  • Ability to initiate, develop and deliver plans and programs successfully
  • Confident and robust negotiation skills
  • Developed analytical abilities, specifically in regards to financial and sales analysis
  • Computer competence in spreadsheet and word programs
  • Developed knowledge and competence in retail systems
