Job description

Colorado Springs, CO Full-Time In-Office
Established Firm Newly Created Leadership Role Direct Line to the President
If you like building the systems a firm has outgrown, this role hands you a blank page and the authority to fill it. You will own human resources, office operations, and the administrative backbone of a respected Colorado Springs law firm.
This is a confidential search for an established Colorado Springs law firm with a long-standing presence in the Southern Colorado legal community. The firm's identity is shared with candidates who advance to the second-interview stage.
This is a long-term platform role, not a stepping stone. The firm is investing in structure rather than simply adding headcount, and the person who builds this function well will grow with it.
About the Role
The Director of Operations is the operational backbone of the firm. You take ownership of human resources, administrative systems, and day-to-day office operations so partners can stay focused on client service, casework, and strategic growth. You are the primary point of contact for staff on HR and administrative matters, and the liaison to the firm's outsourced accounting team, without owning financial or accounting functions directly.
This is a newly elevated role, created to bring structure, consistency, and accountability to functions that partners have historically absorbed or handled informally. Expect to bring order to ambiguity from day one, build systems and documentation that outlast you, and grow into a trusted operational partner to firm leadership. No business development or billable hour expectations apply.
Key Responsibilities
Human resources and team support:
  • Own the employee lifecycle: recruiting coordination, onboarding, offboarding, and personnel records
  • Serve as first point of contact for staff HR questions, concerns, and escalations
  • Manage payroll, benefits, PTO tracking, HR administration, and maintenance of employee policies
  • Coordinate staff meetings and firm-wide communication
  • Support rollout of ongoing staff development and training initiatives
  • Support performance management, accountability conversations, and related documentation
  • Partner with firm leadership on culture, engagement, and staff retention initiatives
  • Assist with attorney and staff event planning and execution

Administrative and office operations:
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations and administrative workflows
  • Develop, document, and maintain firm policies, procedures, and an operational user manual
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies, then propose and implement solutions
  • Manage vendor relationships and administrative and operational contracts
  • Ensure consistency and cross-training across administrative functions to reduce single points of failure

Reporting and liaison role:
  • Serve as point of contact between firm leadership and outsourced professional advisors
  • Serve as point of contact for vendor and supplier relationships
  • Coordinate reporting deadlines and ensure deliverables reach partners on time
  • Organize operational reporting for partner meetings
  • Assist with budgeting and operational forecasting from an operations lens

Strategic and administrative support:
  • Help execute the firm's strategic initiatives and track progress against them
  • Support the implementation of KPIs and scorecards for firm health and performance
  • Prepare operational reports and agendas for partner and staff meetings
  • Maintain centralized operational documentation and project tracking

Requirements
Experience and background:
  • 5+ years in an executive-level operations role (Director of Operations, Operations Manager, or similar)
  • Demonstrated HR and people-management experience, including payroll, benefits, and performance conversations
  • Strong organizational skills with a track record of building systems and processes from the ground up
  • Law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred

Must-haves:
  • No JD or bar license required. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or CLM credentials are a plus
  • Process-minded and systems-oriented, with the discipline to document and maintain what gets built
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and creating structure where none exists yet
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate firm decisions to staff
  • Sound judgment handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Comfortable coordinating with financial and accounting professionals without owning the financial function
  • Willing and able to work in the Colorado Springs office full-time

Why This Role Stands Out
  • Newly created role. You build it rather than inherit someone else's version of it
  • Direct reporting line to the President, with real authority to make operational decisions
  • Work that partners currently absorb, handed to you with a clear mandate to bring order to it
  • A firm investing in structure and systems, not just adding headcount
  • Long-term platform role with room to grow into broader operational leadership
  • Competitive compensation that reaches into the top quartile of the Colorado Springs market

Benefits
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $120,000 to $175,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Medical coverage, with the firm paying the majority of the employee premium
  • Dental and vision coverage available at the employee's expense
  • Dependent coverage available on all plans
  • SIMPLE IRA with firm match up to 3 percent of eligible earnings
  • Paid time off, 120 hours annually to start
  • 8.5 paid holidays
  • Paid sick leave, 48 hours annually, in accordance with Colorado law
  • Firm paid life insurance
  • Monthly phone stipend
  • Employee Assistance Program

How to Apply
