Dinsmore is seeking a Director of Business Development. Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer, the Director of Business Development manages a high-performing team of business professionals, leads strategic growth initiatives across the firm’s departments, practice groups, and industry teams. This role partners closely with firm leadership, attorneys, marketing professionals and the client success team to drive revenue growth, strengthen client relationships, expand market visibility, and support the firm’s national business objectives.

The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking, executive presence, strong relationship management skills, and deep experience in professional services or legal business development. This individual will help shape and execute firmwide growth strategies while leading high-performing business development initiatives across multiple offices and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train and develop business development team members across multiple offices and practices
  • Develop and implement firmwide and practice-specific business development strategies aligned with firm strategy
  • Partner with practice group leaders and firm leadership to identify market opportunities, emerging industries, and competitive positioning initiatives
  • Lead strategic planning sessions with attorneys and practice teams to establish measurable growth objectives
  • Drive cross-selling initiatives and collaboration among offices and practice areas
  • Support attorneys in expanding existing client relationships and identifying new business opportunities
  • Lead strategy on high-value pitch opportunities, RFP responses, presentations, and proposals
  • Track and analyze client and market trends to support proactive business development efforts
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, client-service-oriented culture
  • Establish KPIs, reporting structures, and accountability measures for business development initiatives
  • Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and external consultants as needed
  • Analyze market data, competitive intelligence, and pipeline activity to support strategic decision-making
  • Prepare reports and presentations for firm leadership regarding growth initiatives, ROI, and market trends
  • Utilize CRM and business development technologies to track opportunities and client engagement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of business development, marketing, or client development experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Demonstrated success supporting revenue growth and strategic client initiatives
  • Strong understanding of the legal industry, attorney partnership structures, and professional services business development
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Proven leadership and team management experience across a hybrid, multioffice environment
  • Experience with CRM platforms, proposal management, and data-driven reporting tools
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
  • Experience supporting national professional services organizations
  • Experience managing national or multi-office business development programs
