Job description

The Specialist, Broadcast Operations works with the MLB Network Operations staff in responding to the operations, sales, and technical needs of MLB Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Compare and confirm logs and break memos with sales sponsorship obligations and production requests. Check logs for traffic as quality control to ensure timings, conflicts, and separations are correct.
  • With contributions from the Sales, Marketing, and Programming departments, create daily Live show memos for distribution to production teams. Adjust for and execute Day-Of Air changes as required.
  • Provide VO talent with required materials for MLB Network and NHL Network Billboard production.
  • Provide Operational support to Digital Partnerships and Special Events.
  • Assist in establishing sign on/sign off guidelines, program contingencies, transmission strategies, and intercom communication requirements. Create and distribute necessary supporting operational information to all concerned.
  • React to breaking news by coordinating on air logistics with master control, production and programming.
  • Manage traffic system invoices for MLB/NHL and Local media using the oracle system.
  • Create daily Live game portal data entries.
  • Ability to adjust daily 'conditions' when programming changes occur
  • Assist in the creation of weekly schedules of MLB Network's closed captioning needs and distribute daily technical details
  • Manage data entry to MLB & NHL Network's LIVE game portal.
  • Assign and establish MLB International game conference bridges. 
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of network slates for special events and Strike Zone channel.
  • Fulfill and distribute MLB and NHL International game requests.
  • Regularly provide coverage in the control room. 
  • Routinely check in with Master Control, Tech Managers, and Acquisitions group prior to show shift to discuss production and operational plans.
  • Ensure that all studio and other remotes are checked in correctly and actively trouble shoot any issues. Promptly communicate any changes in transmission, traffic, sales etc. to the appropriate areas.
  • Other such duties as required. 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 4 years' applicable experience in the broadcast television operations industry.
  • Strong computer skills including Excel.
  • Demonstrable basic knowledge of television production, operations and transmission.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and make informed and effective decisions in a fast paced, high pressure environment.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated initiative and the ability to complete multiple assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, recommend and implement process improvements, work independently and, manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction across multiple operational functions. 
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, and strong interpersonal skills in a live television environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Possess sufficient eyesight to work effectively in a dimly-lit control room environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Possess the manual dexterity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the visual acuity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Possess the auditory acuity needed to effectively create required work product.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.

  • Sr. Director, Broadcast Operations

Pay Range: $62,500 annually

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB Network considers relevant to the hiring decision.
