Job description

Position Overview:

The Sports Broadcasting Technical Lead is responsible for coordinating all technical aspects of live sports broadcasts. This includes handling the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcasting equipment. This person will coordinate with production, engineering, and operations teams.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate technical planning and execution of live sports broadcasts, encompassing studio, remote, and hybrid productions.
  • Supervise and preserve broadcast equipment like cameras, switchers, routers, replay systems, graphics systems, and audio consoles.
  • Coordinate technical crews, including engineers, operators, and freelancers, ensuring alignment with production needs.
  • Collaborate with producers, directors, and editorial teams to guarantee all technical needs are fulfilled for each event.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time to minimize disruption during live broadcasts.
  • Ensure accurate signal flow and quality for transmission to linear TV, digital platforms, and streaming services.
  • Coordinate remote production (REMI) workflows, satellite uplinks, and IP-based transport systems.
  • Maintain compliance with FCC regulations, safety standards, and internal SOPs.
  • Assist in budgeting and procurement of technical resources for productions.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior technical staff and freelancers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Media Technology, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in live broadcast production, preferably in sports.
  • Deep knowledge of broadcast systems, including SDI/IP workflows, video/audio routing, encoding/decoding, and transmission technologies.
  • Experience leading technical teams in fast-paced, live production settings.
  • Mastery in broadcast control systems like Evertz and Lawo, video switchers such as Grass Valley and Ross, replay systems like EVS and DreamCatcher, and audio consoles including Calrec and Yamaha.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Experience with cloud-based and IP production technologies (e.g., AWS Elemental, SRT, NDI).
  • Familiarity with REMI workflows and remote production infrastructure.
  • Certifications in broadcast technologies (e.g., SBE, SMPTE, Dante).
  • Experience working with major sports leagues, federations, or broadcasters.
  • Knowledge of media asset management and post-production workflows.
Pay Range: $65.00 - $70.00 USD/hour
