Position: Sr. Industrial Designer
Department: Industrial Design - Home & Outdoor
Work Location: New York, NY, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)
Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. What you will be doing:
The Senior Industrial Designer will play a pivotal role in advancing insight-driven design solutions across the Home & Outdoor division for OXO, Hydro Flask, and Osprey.
Building on OXO's legacy of thoughtful, universal design, this individual will create products that simplify everyday experiences through intuitive, user-centered solutions grounded in deep consumer understanding.
They will help shape Hydro Flask's next chapter of growth by developing innovative products that blend performance-driven functionality with clean, iconic design, strengthening the brand's connection to active and outdoor-inspired lifestyles.
In parallel, they will support Osprey's commitment to purpose-built performance by designing products that embody technical excellence, fit, functional rigor, and user-centered innovation. Working across a diverse portfolio of brands, this designer will translate each brand's distinct design ethos into compelling, on-brand product solutions.
With the guidance of the Senior Director of Industrial Design, Associate Industrial Design Director and partnerships across various business units including engineering and marketing, this individual will be an advocate for design excellence by leveraging consumer insights and cross functional guidance to make strategic design decisions. This individual will be an active driver of day-to-day responsibilities needed to deliver design solutions at critical gate meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Design and develop new products through strategic thinking and process.
  • Assess user experience associated with ergonomics, user logic and interaction of the product.
  • Ideate product aesthetics associated with form, color and design language.
  • Identify and solve problems with end user needs through rigorous user testing.
  • Apply research and insights to design, ensuring functionality, user experience and aesthetics are on brand to HF & OXO's identity.
  • Define color solutions in a purposeful and strategic manner which aligns with the business goals.
  • Design within the constraints of manufacturing and cost
  • Align with engineering and Business Units through all stages of design development.
  • Lead design activities through design process gates
  • Implement and organize design activities around schedules and project goals.
  • Manage project timelines, tasks, and functions of projects.
  • Support the optimization of the Industrial Design across HF and OXO by leading the implementation and maintenance of the established Visual Brand Language across the respective brands.
  • Mentor junior designers through guided best practices around user insights and design implementation.
  • Brief junior designers on projects, guiding the execution of direction through various phase gates.
  • Guide development of design and research through frequent, regular reviews, presenting to Design Leadership.
  • Support designers to shepherd designs through the approval process, presenting work to cross-functional teams confidently, clearly, and logically.
  • Monitor and evaluate team to ensure individual and group development.
  • Be the role model for the team creatively and professionally, performing to a consistently high standard.

Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Demonstrates strong sense of aesthetics through their work and presentations / portfolio
  • Proven understanding of brand strategy as it relates to Industrial design.
  • Ability to articulate subjective matters in a tactile strategic manner (i.e. color, aesthetics)
  • Experience presenting work and communicating effectively with senior leadership.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design
  • 6 years of experience in industrial design and consumer product development
  • High proficiency in SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator required), KeyShot, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated track record of leading consumer products from concept through commercialization
  • Strong understanding of injection molding and plastics manufacturing processes
  • *Sample Portfolio showcasing work as the primary designer on consumer products is required with the application *
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Basecamp, Smartsheet)
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10% as needed
  • Authorized to work full-time in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Design Consultancy Experience
  • Experience designing outdoor equipment and gear

In New York City, the standard base pay range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000 annually. This base pay range is specific to New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
