Position Summary
This role is responsible for providing leadership, day-to-day management and strategic growth planning for the SpartanNash Financial Services department. This role leads a team of associates split between financial reporting and tax preparation supporting over 75 grocery retails and small businesses owners along with over 200 individual tax returns. The role will be responsible for identifying trends, issues and opportunities to improve financial performance of customer stores and growing this value-added service and its offering across multiple offices and geographies.
Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for providing leadership for the financial services group by planning and leading all financial activities related to financial statements and payroll and tax services for enterprise clients.
  • Ensure client financial statements and tax returns are prepared accurately in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Ensure the highest client experience possible while working to control costs and maximize profitability.
  • Responsible for creation and management of strategic growth plan with annual growth targets.
  • Provide financial expertise for clients as needed.
  • Solicit new business by attending trade shows, expos, etc.
  • Prepare department budgets and forecast updates per established basis.
  • Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best accounting practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Experience, Education and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA, EA or master's in taxation preferred
  • Seven years' accounting experience with financial statements and/or tax preparation experience.
  • Five years prior management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and effective decision-making skills, organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, strong initiative and ability to prioritize multiple projects/deliverables.
  • Excellent financial/spreadsheet modeling skills.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Experience reviewing and preparing financial statements and corporate, partnership, trust and individual tax returns.
  • Experience with Great Plains accounting software and Ulta Tax software preferred.
  • Ability to travel 20%.
