What does a Director of Deployment do?

A Director of Deployment is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of product or system rollouts within an organization. They lead teams to ensure that deployments are completed on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. This role often involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to manage risks and resolve issues that may arise during deployment. Additionally, Directors of Deployment develop strategies to optimize deployment processes and ensure client satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Director of Deployment, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director of Deployment, you need strong project management expertise, strategic planning abilities, and a background in business or engineering, often supported by a relevant degree and leadership experience. Familiarity with deployment automation tools, enterprise software platforms, and methodologies like Agile or ITIL is typically required. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate cross-functional teams and manage complex rollouts. These skills ensure efficient, scalable deployments and minimize risks, directly impacting organizational success.

What are some common challenges faced by a Director of Deployment when coordinating large-scale rollouts across multiple teams?

A Director of Deployment often encounters challenges related to aligning cross-functional teams, managing tight timelines, and ensuring consistent communication during large-scale rollouts. Balancing stakeholder expectations, mitigating risks, and adapting to last-minute changes are also frequent hurdles. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to foster collaboration across technical, operational, and business units.

Job description

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Deployment Hardware Technician to support end-user technology across a fast-paced private equity environment. This role is responsible for the imaging, deployment, lifecycle management, and optimization of hardware within a Microsoft Windows ecosystem, ensuring seamless delivery of technology to investment professionals and business teams. This individual will operate in a high-performance, low-latency environment where reliability, speed, and precision are critical to business success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, image, and deploy Windows-based endpoints (laptops, desktops, trading floor setups) using standardized build processes
  • Manage hardware lifecycle: procurement support, asset tagging, inventory tracking, refresh cycles, and secure decommissioning
  • Execute zero-touch / low-touch deployments leveraging tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Autopilot, and imaging solutions
  • Troubleshoot hardware and OS-level issues (drivers, BIOS/firmware, peripherals, docking stations, multi-monitor setups)
  • Support executive and investment teams with white-glove desk setups, office moves, and rapid onboarding
  • Maintain and improve deployment workflows through PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Ensure compliance with security standards including patching, encryption, and endpoint hardening
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and networking teams to ensure consistent endpoint performance and connectivity
  • Document build standards, deployment procedures, and asset management practices

Required Qualifications

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in hardware deployment, desktop engineering, or IT support within a Windows environment
  • Strong experience with Windows 10/11 imaging, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune and/or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager
  • Familiarity with Azure AD / Entra ID, group policies, and endpoint security controls
  • Experience supporting high-demand users (finance, trading floor, or executive environments preferred)
  • Solid understanding of hardware components (CPU, RAM, storage, peripherals) and troubleshooting techniques
  • Basic scripting experience (PowerShell preferred) for automation and deployment efficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in private equity, hedge fund, or financial services environments
  • Exposure to MDM/MAM, endpoint security tools, and compliance frameworks
  • Familiarity with asset management systems and ITIL-based processes
  • Experience supporting multi-site or global office deployments

What Makes This Role Different

  • Direct support of investment professionals where uptime and speed matter
  • High visibility—your work directly impacts onboarding, productivity, and trading readiness
  • Lean team environment with ownership over the full device lifecycle
  • Opportunity to modernize deployment practices (automation, cloud-first endpoint management)

Ideal Candidate Profile

Someone who:

  • Takes pride in clean, consistent builds and efficient deployments
  • Moves with urgency but doesn’t sacrifice quality
  • Understands that in a PE environment, downtime = real financial impact
  • Is proactive about improving processes, not just executing them
