The Role

As the Director, Data Support, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will lead and mature the Data Support team, ensuring high-quality data operations that enable marketing, fundraising, and governance initiatives. This role is critical to advancing Save the Children’s mission by improving data quality, optimizing processes and organizational effectiveness, and supporting strategic decision-making through accurate and timely data. You will manage a team of analysts, collaborate with data infrastructure teams, and engage stakeholders to deliver efficient data services.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Management of the Data Support Team (50%):

  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Data Enablement on team priorities, blockers, and ways of working across the Enablement function.
  • Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division, and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission and supports Save the Children values.
  • Oversees resource allocation, workload balancing, and capacity planning to ensure timely delivery of data services, balancing long-term strategic objectives with evolving business demands and priorities.
  • Responsible for tracking team KPIs, developing and tracking other metrics, and reporting out to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Design and implement onboarding programs and leveling frameworks for Data Support Analysts.
  • Identify upskilling opportunities and foster professional growth within the team.

Stakeholder Engagement (20%):

  • Serve as the primary liaison for business stakeholders, ensuring clear and thoughtful communication while managing business expectations regarding Data Support priorities, capacity, and service delivery.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to review demand, resolve blockers, and maintain alignment on business partner priorities.
  • Monitor and flag capacity issues early to prevent delays and maintain service quality.
  • Advocate for team needs using data-driven insights to support decision-making.

Strategy & Planning (15%):

  • Collaborate with the Head of Data, Analytics & Automation, the Senior Director of Data Enablement, and other leaders to develop and implement team and departmental strategies and roadmaps; consult and inform the divisional strategy and roadmap. a
  • Contribute to planning for resource needs, vendor engagement, and process improvements.
  • Manage budget and support SOW development for time-and-materials vendors under leadership oversight.
  • Support initiatives that enhance enablement, including data literacy, compliance, and governance across the Agency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)

  • Partner with data infrastructure and engineering teams to identify automation opportunities and improve workflows, partner with other data enablement teams to advance literacy initiatives and governance activities.
  • Work with technology and business teams to ensure seamless integration of processes and systems.
  • Participate in cross-team planning sessions to align priorities and deliver shared objectives.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues in related areas, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.

Required qualifications for the role

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading a data management or data services team
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles and governance practices
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity and resource management, demand management, and working with business teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook
  • Proficiency with Atlassian products (Jira, Jira Service Management (JSM), Confluence), including dashboard creation, filter development, reporting, and workload management
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

    Preferred qualifications for the role

    • Certifications in Agile development and workflows
    • Experience with designing processes and process optimization for service teams
    • Experience with Data Governance frameworks and data quality tracking
    • Familiarity with data operating models and data team structures in federated environments

    Compensation

    Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

    • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $99,450 - $111,150 base salary 
    • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $90,100 - $100,700 base salary 
    • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $80,750 - $90,250 base salary 

    The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here)
