Job description

Shared Services: Center for Data Sciences (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

Job Summary: The Director for the Center of Data Science advances cutting-edge research and develops transformative solutions at the intersection of biology, medicine, and data science. Contributes to campus-wide groundbreaking initiatives that will drive scientific innovation, enhance patient care, and align our mission to improve lives. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field required. Minimum five years of applied experience in biostatistics, bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications required.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of life sciences, including genomics, systems biology, and molecular biology. Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics, predictive modeling, multivariate analysis, Bayesian statistics experimental design and Model validation and interpretation. Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, GATK, Ensembl), clinical and big data integration, multi-omics analyses, and translational research. Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., R, SAS) and general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Julia, or C++). Expertise in machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn) and advanced AI algorithms. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
