Job description

ABOUT HUT 8
Imagine the ultimate destination for those who want to work at the cutting edge of technology, energy, and infrastructure. Hut 8 is on a mission to build and operate some of the world's largest data centers for next-generation computing workloads, including AI, Colocation, Cloud, and Bitcoin Mining. We are proud to offer interesting and challenging opportunities for individuals who want to build teams, solve problems, and make an impact from day one. If you're an ambitious individual looking for a career that is as rewarding as it is challenging, you've come to the right place.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hut 8 is seeking an execution-focused Director of Construction to own the delivery of one of our large-scale data center builds end-to-end. You will be the accountable owner of your build-from groundbreaking through commissioning-responsible for schedule, budget, safety, quality, and the commercial relationship with the prime contractor. The buck stops with you on your project.
You will be the owner in the driver's seat, accountable for execution excellence across large-scale sites, managing both the strategy and the details of construction delivery. This role requires a proven track record in building mission-critical facilities, strong vendor and contractor management experience, and the ability to scale high-performing teams. You will have up to two or three analysts and associates reporting to you whom you coach toward running their own builds; this is an owner-operator seat, not one that manages other senior leaders.
Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Own the delivery of a large-scale, mission-critical construction build for a hyperscale or AI-ready data center.
    • Be the organization's accountable owner on your project, trusted to run the build without hand-holding and to coach up to two or three analysts and associates who support you.
  • End-to-End Construction Oversight:
    • Own the full lifecycle of construction delivery: planning, design interface, permitting, groundbreaking, vertical build, commissioning, and handover.
    • Support the transition from preconstruction into field execution, ensuring site teams are mobilized with clear documentation and alignment.
  • Execution Excellence:
    • Ensure the facility is built to the highest standards of reliability, safety, and scalability.
    • Drive efficiency and innovation in construction processes to improve speed-to-market and cost competitiveness.
    • Implement Hut 8 playbooks and standardized processes on-site, and own end-to-end change order management across Hut 8, subcontractors, and the prime contractor.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management:
    • Own commercial and legal negotiations under AIA agreements, coordinating with legal and finance to secure favorable contract terms.
    • Interview, select, and manage the prime contractor (GC); act as the primary point of contact throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with design, operations, engineering, finance, and executive leadership to ensure seamless integration of your build into the broader Hut 8 portfolio.
  • Act as the senior on-site voice on all construction-related matters for your project.

ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 8+ years of construction management or general contracting experience on large-scale data center, industrial, or mission-critical infrastructure projects, with at least one build run end-to-end as the accountable owner.
  • Hands-on builder-you grew up building things, have a genuine love for the work, and do not mind remote postings at active construction sites.
  • Working knowledge of AIA contract structures, bid processes, change order workflows, and contractor/vendor negotiations.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and field management skills, with strong organizational and communication abilities across technical and executive audiences.
  • Proficiency in construction management tools and reporting systems (e.g., Procore, MS Project, P6).

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is in office at our corporate headquarters in the Brickell area of Miami, Florida. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WHAT MAKES HUT 8 A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
Hut 8 offers a benefits and wellness program that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and short-term and long-term disability insurance, as well as paid time off. We are proud to invest in building the best team in the industry. At all levels of the organization, we are driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, radical transparency, and relentless growth mentality.
At Hut 8, you will have the opportunity to:
โ€ข Work with bright, driven peers from a range of educational and professional backgrounds including software development, energy, engineering, entrepreneurship, investment banking, private equity, and management consulting
โ€ข Design and pitch new products, services, and other initiatives to a leadership team consisting of serial entrepreneurs and seasoned executives and backed by a board of directors consisting of industry veterans of energy, finance, and government
โ€ข Debate ideas and alternatives in a truly meritocratic setting where the learning curve is steep and the lessons come from both senior and junior members of the team
โ€ข Build a lifelong network of friends and professional connections at the cutting-edge intersection of technology, energy, and infrastructure
