What is a digital storefront?

A digital storefront is an online platform or website where businesses display and sell their products or services to customers over the internet. It serves as the virtual equivalent of a physical store, allowing users to browse, select, and purchase items from anywhere. Digital storefronts typically include features such as product listings, shopping carts, secure payment processing, and customer service tools. They are essential for businesses looking to reach a wider audience and streamline the buying process in today’s digital marketplace.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital storefront manager?

To thrive as a Digital Storefront Manager, you need expertise in e-commerce platforms, digital marketing, merchandising, and strong analytical abilities, often supported by a degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Shopify, Magento, Google Analytics, and content management systems (CMS) is typically required. Strong project management, creativity, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies ensure seamless online shopping experiences, drive sales, and support business growth in the competitive digital marketplace.

Job description

Overview
GCG Connectivity & Power Solutions is seeking a Digital Store Director to lead the commercial performance and day-to-day evolution of our digital storefront!
This role will own the customer journey from product discovery through purchase / Request for Quote, using merchandising, pricing, platform functionality, and customer insights to turn digital traffic into revenue and qualified sales opportunities.
As Digital Store Director, you will treat the website as a revenue-generating storefront rather than simply a marketing channel. You will be accountable for increasing online revenue, improving conversion, growing digital adoption among existing customers, and ensuring professional buyers can quickly find the technical products and information they need.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an ecommerce professional who combines commercial judgment, analytical thinking, digital merchandising expertise, and the ability to coordinate work across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Procurement, and Information Technology. You will manage priorities across the digital buying experience while helping the organization build stronger, more scalable ecommerce capabilities.
This full-time position reports to the Vice President of Marketing & eCommerce and is based in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement following an initial in-office training period.
What You'll Do
  • Own the commercial performance of GCG's digital storefront, with accountability for online revenue, gross margin, conversion, qualified lead generation, customer adoption, retention, engagement, and site performance.
  • Develop and execute strategies that grow digital revenue from new and existing customers through improvements to product assortment, merchandising, pricing, inventory visibility, and the overall buying experience.
  • Optimize both "Buy Now" and Request for Quote pathways using funnel analysis, customer behavior data, A/B testing, and ongoing experimentation to remove friction and improve conversion.
  • Strengthen digital lead generation by improving landing pages, forms, product inquiry experiences, and "Contact an Expert" pathways that connect qualified customers with the appropriate sales resources.
  • Define, monitor, and communicate key performance indicators, including revenue, margin, conversion rate, average order value, lead volume, monthly active users, customer retention, catalog accuracy, search effectiveness, site uptime, and page speed.
  • Manage public and customer-specific online pricing in partnership with commercial and functional teams, helping ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with established margin objectives.
  • Partner with Sales to increase customer adoption of online ordering, account management, and Request for Quote tools, particularly among customers who have traditionally purchased through offline channels.
  • Use customer behavior, cohort analysis, and purchasing patterns to develop onboarding, retention, re-engagement, reorder, loyalty, and account-based incentive strategies.
  • Deliver personalized digital experiences, including contract pricing, account-specific product visibility, order history, reorder tools, and relevant product recommendations.
  • Own the quality and commercial effectiveness of the digital product catalog, ensuring products include accurate technical attributes, application information, descriptions, imagery, pricing, inventory visibility, and downloadable documentation.
  • Lead digital product launches from initial setup through content development, pricing coordination, category placement, search visibility, and launch readiness.
  • Improve product discovery and basket size through effective taxonomy, navigation, filters, search optimization, product ranking, cross-sell, and upsell strategies.
  • Oversee the performance, availability, and customer-facing functionality of the digital storefront, including account access, product discovery, checkout, Request for Quote, and related transactional workflows.
  • Serve as a primary business administrator for the Optimizely B2B Commerce platform, coordinating configurations, updates, integrations, enhancements, and third-party tools.
  • Lead the identification, prioritization, testing, and resolution of platform issues, balancing urgent customer-impacting concerns with longer-term enhancements and feature development.
  • Partner with Information Technology, developers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to maintain platform stability, integration reliability, data quality, security, and appropriate safeguards against fraud or suspicious activity.
  • Translate digital priorities into clear requirements, project plans, development tickets, testing plans, launch activities, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships across Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Customer Service, Information Technology, product teams, and external platform partners.
  • Communicate digital-store performance, customer trends, commercial opportunities, platform risks, and recommended priorities to senior leaders and functional stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, supporting performance management, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • At least five years of progressively responsible ecommerce, digital commerce, digital merchandising, or related experience, preferably involving direct accountability for a revenue-generating storefront.
  • Demonstrated experience owning or materially influencing digital revenue, conversion rates, qualified lead generation, customer engagement, or ecommerce growth.
  • Experience managing a digital storefront or ecommerce platform, including responsibility for areas such as product catalog management, pricing, merchandising, search, navigation, checkout, Request for Quote workflows, or user experience.
  • Strong understanding of ecommerce performance metrics, including revenue, margin, conversion rate, average order value, customer adoption, retention, lead generation, engagement, bounce rate, and site performance.
  • Experience translating digital and transactional data into practical recommendations that improve merchandising, functionality, customer experience, or commercial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of product catalog structure, product attributes, taxonomy, onsite search, navigation, product-detail pages, and related ecommerce operations.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional work with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Procurement, Information Technology, Customer Service, or related business teams.
  • Ability to lead people effectively while remaining comfortable contributing directly to platform, merchandising, analytical, and operational work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate customer behavior, prioritize opportunities, and make sound commercial decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and execution skills, including the ability to manage complex systems, competing priorities, platform issues, and cross-functional projects in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, technical teams, functional partners, and senior leaders.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, develop practical solutions, and drive work toward measurable results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to work effectively with reporting, analytics, and business systems.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Ecommerce, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in a business-to-business ecommerce environment or with technical, industrial, electrical, wire and cable, automation, connectivity, or distribution products.
  • Experience working with Optimizely B2B Commerce or a comparable enterprise ecommerce platform.
  • Experience working with enterprise resource planning systems, customer relationship management platforms, product information management tools, analytics platforms, and third-party ecommerce integrations.
  • Experience managing customer-specific pricing, contract pricing, complex product catalogs, Request for Quote workflows, or account-based digital commerce experiences.
  • Familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, customer cohort analysis, digital personalization, automated reorder programs, loyalty strategies, and customer re-engagement workflows.
  • Experience partnering with development teams or external agencies through formal ticketing, prioritization, testing, and release-management processes.
What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary and performance based bonus
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options (CDHP and PPO) to get you the coverage you need
  • Robust Financial Security: Company-paid life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, plus options for supplemental critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity plans
