What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Digital Content Reviewer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digital Content Reviewer, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a solid understanding of content guidelines or policies, often supported by a relevant degree or prior experience in content moderation. Familiarity with content management systems, moderation tools, and sometimes specific industry platforms or proprietary review systems is typically required. These skills ensure accurate, consistent content evaluation and help maintain a safe and compliant online environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Digital Content Reviewers, and how can they be managed?

Digital Content Reviewers often encounter high volumes of user-generated content that must be evaluated quickly and accurately, which can be mentally taxing. The role may involve exposure to sensitive materials, making resilience and self-care important. Collaboration with team members and supervisors is common to ensure consistency in applying content guidelines, and many companies provide support systems such as counseling or regular debriefings. Staying updated with evolving content policies and using provided tools efficiently also helps manage workload and maintain quality.

Job description

Common Sense Networks PBC is a kids media company that has been incubated by Common Sense Media, the nation's leading independent nonprofit organization devoted to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology. Embracing the trusted position that Common Sense has with parents, Common Sense Networks creates and curates safe, age-appropriate, and engaging content for kids and families through various initiatives and partnerships.

The Content Reviewer role will be focused on short-form social media content, reviewing existing video content for appropriateness for kids under 13. We're building a team of mission-minded people interested in making safe and age-appropriate media for kids the rule rather than the exception in the industry!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Become and remain reliable on using Common Sense Networks' proprietary rubric to accurately evaluate short-form videos for safety concerns, quality, and age appropriateness for kids 2-12.
  • Watch short-form videos and submit reviews using Common Sense Networks' proprietary content management system.
  • Meet video review pacing and weekly submission requirements.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Background in child development, education, and/or related field.
  • Someone who spends time on short-form video platforms (e.g., TikTok, YouTube Shorts) and can keep up with the acronyms, pop culture, and trends seen on them.
  • Excellent attention to detail (a 40-page guidelines document doesn't scare you!) time management (weekly deadlines are no issue), and communication skills (you are proactive about reaching out with questions and concerns).

TIME COMMITMENT:

  • You must be able to commit to working at least 10 hours per week (40 hours per month) on the project.
  • You are able to work on your own time schedule but should be available to complete your weekly hours in multiple sessions per week. While 10 hours of reviewing short-form video content might not seem like a lot, we find it is necessary to split the work into various shorter sessions over multiple days.
  • Attend occasional training and meetings as necessary.

APPLICATION DETAILS:

  • This is an independent contractor role and is fully remote.
  • This role requires access to a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Applicants must submit both a resume and cover letter to be considered for the role.

Common Sense Networks values the diversity of its employees and is an equal opportunity employer.
