The Digital Content Producer updates KELOLAND.com, curating high-performing content and reviews homepage layouts based on data. This person helps to report and edit news -- from quick-hit local stories to breaking developments and enterprise reports. This role will work on building a loyal local and regional audience by being responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest.

Position Responsibilities:

Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content packaged and promoted in a way that generates engagement and repeat site visitation

Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be quick to write, report and distribute breaking news stories while always on the hunt for exclusive and or trending content that will grow engagement and drive traffic

Some schedule flexibility

Excellent at writing and testing headlines to grow audience and engagement

Prioritize packaging content that grows audience loyalty and time on site, using headline testing, metric tools and observed patterns to guide decision making

Understand different ways to tell a story, particularly choosing great photos and producing short videos

Evaluate website traffic trends to make decisions on daily content needs and longer-term content curation

Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively on enterprise content and create opportunities to market web content on broadcast

Promote and distribute news content on social media and email newsletters

Skill/ Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

2 years of experience in digital content and journalism

Clever headline writer that gets readers to click

Strong multi-tasking abilities while under deadline pressure

Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker

Capable of pitching, researching, interviewing and writing original news articles

Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style

Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills

Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly

Typical day

Digital Content Producer will attend local editorial meetings as needed/assigned. Producer will have familiarity with local, regional and national content. Data will be used to make decisions on what stories to publish and how and when to showcase them on website. Producer will take stories from newsroom and digital reporters and copy edit and package the content for optimal engagement. Producer will serve as editor for optimizing headlines and thumbnail images for click through/open rate. The hours do include weekends, which means this role has a good mix of time working with others and independent work. Producer will communicate successes across the team and the regional group to maximize traffic wins.
