Do digital designers get paid well?

Entry-level designers may start with lower pay, while experienced professionals with skills in UX/UI, prototyping tools, and user research can command higher salaries, especially in tech-centric markets.

Is digital product design a good career?

Digital product design is a growing field that involves creating user-friendly interfaces and experiences for digital products. It often requires skills in UX/UI design, proficiency with design tools, and collaboration with development teams. The career offers opportunities in various industries, with demand driven by digital transformation and technology adoption.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Digital Product Designer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digital Product Designer, you need expertise in user experience (UX), user interface (UI) design, visual communication, and a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with prototyping and wireframing software are often required. Strong collaboration, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to communicate design concepts effectively distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualities are vital because they enable designers to create intuitive digital products that meet user needs and business objectives in a competitive market.

What are typical daily responsibilities for a Digital Product Designer?

As a Digital Product Designer, your daily responsibilities often include participating in team meetings to discuss project requirements, creating wireframes and prototypes, iterating on visual designs based on user feedback, and collaborating closely with developers to ensure design feasibility. You may also conduct user research, refine user flows, and present your design solutions to stakeholders. Expect to work in a collaborative environment, balancing creative exploration with practical constraints to ensure the best possible user experience. This role often involves multitasking between several projects or features, providing both creative variety and the opportunity to have a significant impact on the final product.

What do digital product designers do?

Digital product designers create the visual and interactive elements of digital products such as websites and apps. They focus on user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, using tools like Sketch or Figma, and collaborate with developers and stakeholders to ensure the product is functional and user-friendly.

What is a Digital Product Designer job?

A Digital Product Designer is responsible for creating user-friendly digital experiences by blending UX (user experience), UI (user interface), and visual design principles. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to research user needs, develop wireframes and prototypes, and refine designs based on feedback. Their goal is to enhance usability and aesthetics while aligning with business objectives. Digital Product Designers often work on websites, mobile apps, and software platforms to ensure seamless and engaging interactions.

Is AI replacing product designers?

AI tools are increasingly used by digital product designers to automate repetitive tasks and generate design options, but they do not replace the need for human creativity, user research, and strategic thinking. Product designers focus on understanding user needs and creating intuitive experiences, skills that AI currently cannot fully replicate. Therefore, AI is a complement to, rather than a replacement for, skilled product designers.

Job description

smartdept. is searching for a Digital Product Designer for a travel and hospitality industry client. The ideal candidate will come with 4+ years of experience. This is a project-based, fully remote, ongoing contract opportunity with the possibility of extension.
This team operates within a highly technical digital product framework, supporting approximately 40 accounts with work spanning full website builds, feature updates, and new AI product design. The Digital Product Designer will collaborate closely with a small, senior-level UI/UX team and work within a structured design system built for seamless engineering handoff.
What You'll Do:
  • Design across multiple viewports (mobile-first through desktop) within an established Figma design system
  • Prepare and deliver developer-ready files including technical specs, developer annotations, and content annotations
  • Contribute to UX consulting work including heuristics evaluations and journey mapping
  • Ensure designs meet digital best practices: accessibility standards, mobile scaling, touch targets, and responsive layout logic
  • Collaborate with the internal team to diagnose product problems and present data-informed solutions to clients
  • Hand off structured, well-documented files to engineering teams

What You'll Need:
  • Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
    • 4+ years of experience in digital product design or UX/UI design
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including design systems, components, and multi-viewport layouts
  • Demonstrated experience with engineering handoff - technical specs, annotations, and responsive design documentation
  • Solid understanding of digital best practices: mobile-first design, accessibility checks, web-safe fonts, and email design constraints
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret product data and communicate design rationale clearly to non-design stakeholders

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Experience with interactive prototyping tools (e.g., Make, Figma advanced prototyping, or Figma-to-code connections)
  • Familiarity with current digital trends including AI product design and evolving design system standards
  • Background in travel, hospitality, or agency environments supporting multiple client accounts
