Zund & Print Operator Job Description

The Zund & Print Operator is an integral member of the printing and production team and is responsible for setting up and operating equipment, performing routine maintenance, and producing finish-cut products to match job specs within quality standards and deadlines. The primary responsibility of the Digital Print & Zund Operator is converting materials using the Zund digital cutter. The secondary responsibility is prepping, sending, and printing files using digital printers.

This is a regular, full-time hourly position. Work hours are 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm Monday through Friday. Depending on business volume and demands, overtime, including occasional weekends, may be required periodically. The Digital Print & Zund Operator reports to the Print & Production Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Review workflow and plan cut jobs to maximize operating efficiencies across departments.
  • Cut print jobs and other materials per order specifications, creating cut files as needed.
  • Route out sign jobs on a variety of substrates.
  • Verify quality meets expectations as a job is running to minimize waste.
  • Take initiative to troubleshoot issues with hardware, software, and cutting tools.
  • Match output to order tickets with extreme accuracy.
  • Communicate with the supervisor and other necessary stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform general cleaning & maintenance on equipment; and maintain a safe & clean work environment.
  • Support Dock & Conversion team during downtime by performing other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to running paper chopper, band saw, orbital sander, etc.

Education, Qualifications, and Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years' experience operating a Zund or similar cutting machine.
  • Extensive knowledge of software, hardware, file setup, tools, and accessories for Zund digital cutter or similar
  • Must have a keen eye for minor imperfections and excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving and decision-making skills that benefit business operations.
  • Able to multitask and highly self-motivated.
  • Digital and/or wide format printing experience a plus
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as dictated by demand.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift.
