Job description

WGN-TV is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Digital Media Director to serve as a key member of the newsroom leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Director of News & Multiplatform Content, the Digital Media Director is responsible for leading WGN's digital content operation, audience growth strategy, social media initiatives, and streaming/CTV content execution. This role plays a critical part in shaping editorial strategy, driving multiplatform innovation, and ensuring seamless integration between broadcast, digital, streaming, mobile, and social platforms.
The Digital Media Director oversees Digital Producers and digital content staff while leading the newsroom's streaming and CTV strategy. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can think strategically, execute operationally, develop talent, and drive accountability through clearly defined goals and measurable results.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Lead WGN-TV's digital, social, streaming, and CTV content strategy as a member of the newsroom leadership team.
  • Partner with newsroom leaders to drive multiplatform content planning, audience growth, and coverage execution.
  • Direct digital coverage during breaking news, severe weather, and major events.
  • Drive measurable growth in digital audiences, social engagement, streaming and CTV viewership, SEO performance, audience loyalty, and multiplatform content execution while fostering employee development, adoption of digital-first workflows, and achievement of newsroom strategic objectives.
  • Lead WGN+ and streaming initiatives, identifying opportunities for live and original content.
  • Supervise Digital Producers and digital staff, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Establish clear goals, expectations, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for newsroom staff.
  • Provide regular feedback, performance evaluations, and development opportunities for staff.
  • Foster collaboration across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms while promoting a digital-first newsroom culture.

Requirements/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience in digital news, audience development, streaming, social media, or multiplatform content operations.
  • Demonstrated success driving audience growth and managing high-performing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of digital analytics, SEO, audience behavior, social media platforms, and streaming ecosystems.
  • Excellent editorial judgment, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms preferred.

Salary Range: 100K to 130K Annualized - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
