Our locations in Chicago or Waukegan, IL are seeking a Senior Program Manager Reporting to the DTS Digital Delivery Director responsible for Self Service Delivery. This role is a full spectrum IT program delivery leadership role focused on the development of current and next generation Digital and self-service solutions by establishing and maturing the delivery service organization that provides services to the Diabetes Care business unit within Abbott.

This role is accountable for contributing to and executing a clear vision by adapting and building an agile minded culture to meet our Digital and Self- Service product strategy. The incumbent is to provide overall delivery leadership for a portfolio of critical, large scale digital, Self Service and customer experience implementation programs by the DTS organization.

Your ability to build a culture of accountability, incremental value delivery in line with commitments, continuous improvement working with a high performing globally dispersed team consisting of internal and external individuals is critical to the success of this role. Your curiosity, technical background, experience managing parallel delivery programs and drive to succeed will be key success criteria.

As a member of the global Digital and Self-Service team, reporting to the Digital Delivery Director, you will form a global leadership team that leverages the skills within our global team, builds a culture respecting and valuing the different inputs from our team and strives to find commonality that helps our team find our next level of capability to deliver.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Initiate and Plan IT Projects

  • Understanding Abbott's strategic vision and market needs for delivering best in class digital and self-service products that help Abbott fulfill the promise of human potential
  • Work with Strategic Business and Executive IT Management to establish project goals and business cases. Interface with executive management on significant matters often requiring the coordination of activity across organization units
  • Partner with IT BRMs (Business Relationship Managers) to understand ongoing project demand and balance against capacity. Develop prioritization framework to optimize project delivery leveraging velocity to determine estimates for future demand. Ensure program delivery is aligned with overall strategic goals by balancing tactical solutions with long term technology roadmap
  • Establish priorities of program teams, select methods and techniques to lead a portfolio of programs to completion

Project Delivery

  • Building a customer obsessed culture that focuses on customer success and brand reputation as its primary goal
  • Managing IT delivery and product management teams through the discovery, ideation, planning, design and technical development of minimum viable products and enhancements on an agile release schedule
  • Driving timely delivery for a portfolio of projects, and platforms within your remit
  • Leveraging project delivery best practices to build detailed project plans ensuring dependencies and critical path are identified and stringently managed
  • Providing Agile best practices across the organization; this will include coaching and mentoring Project Managers, product owners, and developers
  • Instilling a culture of agility, automation and continuous improvement, ensuring new features and changes are deployed quickly, safely and with quality leveraging automation
  • Making appropriate trade-offs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicates goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes
  • Monitoring and managing program and project performance including financials, ensuring the portfolio is progressing as compared to the original plan budget
  • Establishing frameworks to track milestones, goals and objectives, communicate progress and help identify impediments, risks and issues early on, makes recommendations to resolve issues, and works with senior / executive management and sponsor to gain agreement for resolution

Resource and Team Management

  • Recruiting and managing a world class software engineering and digital product organization that delivers with velocity and quality while driving a culture of excellence
  • Provide effective employee performance management utilizing goals, constructive feedback and coaching for improvement
  • Building a culture of continuous improvement within the delivery team to achieve the balance between delivery and operational excellence
  • Coordinate resources to ensure program and business needs are addressed through proactive priority management with business leaders
  • Manages, motivates and mentors cross-functional and enterprise IT project teams
  • Accountable for the supplier resourcing mix strategy for ensuring the successful delivery of the portfolio.

Quality Management

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures

Accountability

  • Manages multiple Programs / projects at the Division Level
  • Makes strategic decisions that impact the Division or site
  • Direct Budgetary responsibility:$0-$8MM or greater
  • Business Impact and Risk:$0-$800MM or greater. Mission critical/strategic to business. Division, multi-Division, or Enterprise affected

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree / master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in delivering large scale IT solutions in an enterprise digital landscape. Experience or familiarity with technologies and best practices in areas not limited to: Digital Marketing, eCommerce, web content management, mobile solutions, social engagement
  • Experience managing complex programs involving multiple projects managers and cross-functional development/testing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively approach business problems and establish course of action
  • Strong leadership skills, having knowledge of software development practices (e.g. Agile/Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence) and the ability to lead Agile programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presenting, meeting facilitation, negotiation, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in matrix global organization with strategic sourcing partners where success requires broad orchestration of resources and services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad IT ability in various disciplines, that include establishing Agile development methodologies, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, organization change management, etc.
  • Financial skills and process skills; an understanding of the company's financial practices and goals and ability to manage team's financials
  • Experience managing high performing software engineering teams building custom business solutions in various technologies (e.g. Java, PHP, JS, React, bootstrap)
  • Hands-on software engineering experience preferred.
