Job description

Job Title: Master Automotive Technician

Location: Diamond Buick GMC, Alexandria, MN

Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Master Automotive Technician to join our Diamond Buick GMC dealership service team. As a Master Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the full range of vehicle systems, from simple maintenance to complex mechanical and electrical repairs. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical knowledge, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality service in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, air conditioning, and hybrid/electric vehicles.
  • Conduct complex diagnostics using advanced tools and technology to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Perform major repairs and overhauls, ensuring vehicles meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve difficult mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues that other technicians may be unable to solve.
  • Perform vehicle inspections for safety, emissions, and performance, identifying necessary repairs or maintenance.
  • Oversee and mentor junior and midlevel technicians and provide guidance and training as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, parts used, and labor hours in the shop management system.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, and repair techniques, and apply them to work processes.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to customers regarding maintenance, repairs, and vehicle safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations, both for personal work practices and team operations.
  • Work closely with service advisors and management to ensure efficient and timely completion of work orders.
  • Troubleshoot and repair advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and other cutting-edge vehicle technologies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as an automotive service technician with significant hands-on experience in complex diagnostics and repairs.
  • ASE Master Technician certification (or equivalent) is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of automotive systems, mechanical and electrical repair procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic software, scan tools, and other specialized equipment to identify and repair problems.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid and electric vehicle systems (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, capable of guiding less-experienced technicians.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, lifting up to 75 lbs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Capability to work in tight spaces and perform repairs in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and working with tools and equipment.
