Job description

The Buyer Planner is a key role in the Supply Chain Dept. that is responsible for assuring inventory supply (which includes both supply planning and buying activities) to best meet global requirements across multiple distribution and sales channels. It is essential that this role has a keen understanding of the product/category market, sales seasonality, vendor capacity and reliability, and transit times in order to strike the optimal balance between high inventory availability and inventory risk / carrying costs.

The Buyer Planner will execute purchasing and inventory management transactions including PO writing, channel allocations, delivery date and logistics tracking, system maintenance, product specification communication, Customer invoicing, accounts payable communication, and management of daily vendor activities. The Buyer/Planner will work as a liaison between Black Diamond and suppliers to support capacity planning and load balancing, especially when there are constraints or seasonality challenges. ย The role serves as main point of contact for Sales in regards to product availability.ย 

Education

Required: Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Business, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.

Work Experience

Required: 1+ years in a purchasing role utilizing an ERP platform and 1+ years experience in a forecast, capacity, production or supply planning environment.ย 
Preferred: 1+ years of the above experience specifically in planning, purchasing and inventory control.
Skills and general experience:
โ€ขย ย  ย Excellent communication (verbal & written), organizational, analytical/problem-solving and administrative skills.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to understand and communicate with specific and diverse hierarchical/cultural audiences.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Proven ability to multi-task, organize, schedule, and track information to and from various sources.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Highly proficient with MS Office especially MS Excel.
โ€ขย ย  ย Experienced with ERP / MRP tools such as Navision, Business Central, Netstock IBP or similar
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to work cooperatively across multiple functions and within a team-based structure.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Must have an excellent understanding of the upstream and downstream of the supply chain process.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Demonstrates initiative, flexibility and provides complete follow through on areas of responsibility.

Alternative qualification: 1+ years of relevant purchasing, inventory control, and requirements planning may substitute for college degree.ย

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Authorized and responsible to continuously improve upon and perform all duties according to BDEL Quality, Safety and Employee Policies and procedures:

1.ย ย  ย Supply Planning
a.ย ย  ย Work with Product, Sourcing and Demand Planning teams to develop preliminary supply loading and completion/ship plans given factory capacity, lead time, vendor reliability and safety stock levels as well as category seasonality and trends.
b.ย ย  ย Advise Category Direction and Demand Planning on known supply issues revolving around style and color MOQโ€™s.
c.ย ย  ย Coordinate the integration of seasonal line and product changes for maximum inventory turns and minimal discontinued merchandise (DM).

2.ย ย  ย Supply Execution
a.ย ย  ย Authorized to act as an agent for Black Diamond Equipment in the purchase of finished goods in accordance with planning requirements, the highest ethical standards, and BDโ€™s Quality System procedures.
b.ย ย  ย Develops tools and systems that notifies of excess inventory (or potential excess) beyond the established horizon at a SKU level, whether at the PO execution stage or at stock holding level.
c.ย ย  ย Authorized and responsible for maintaining purchasing & inventory systems with accurate delivery dates for open orders, justifying discrepancies and closing, changing or canceling purchase orders as required and in accordance with sales forecast, and reporting pertinent information to dept management.
d.ย ย  ย Responsible for monitoring on time delivery rates, total fulfillment and other key vendor performance and purchasing metrics.
e.ย ย  ย Monitor overall inventory position, projected DM position and proactively communicate any issues with management.
f.ย ย  ย Assists in performing and troubleshooting day-to-day activities of the Purchasing and Supply Management Team.
g.ย ย  ย Proactively partner with Sales Teams to report product, material availability, and delivery issues.


3.ย ย  ย Process Documentation and Improvement

a.ย ย  ย Responsible for working closely with coworkers to develop or improve purchasing and supply chain processes, systems and tools.ย 
b.ย ย  ย Responsible to write and maintain detailed procedures for all key aspects of job and file in the designated location on the Black Diamond network.
c.ย ย  ย Responsible for maintaining excellent vendor relationships (internal and external) with the goal of optimum quality, cooperation and trust between vendors and Black Diamond.
