Assumption University seeks an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Digital and Web Strategy to lead the institution's digital presence with a primary day-to-day focus on maximizing the effectiveness of Assumption.edu. This individual will ensure the University's website is accurate, accessible, user-friendly, strategically structured, and optimized for visibility, engagement, and conversion-especially in support of enrollment and brand goals.


Basic Purpose:


Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the Director of Digital Strategy will collaborate on   

digital content strategy, including social media, storytelling, and digital campaign integration. They will supervise the digital content team and serve as a strategic connector across teams to unify web, content, and social media strategy. This role demands both strategic vision and hands-on execution-ideal for someone who understands that a high-performing website is a cornerstone of a strong digital presence.


Accountabilities:


Digital Strategy Leadership

Lead the development and execution of an integrated digital strategy across web, social media, and digital storytelling platforms.

Ensure all digital experiences reflect Assumption's mission, support enrollment and advancement goals, and maintain consistency in voice, tone, and brand expression.

Partner with colleagues in marketing, enrollment, advancement, mission, and academics to align digital strategy with institutional priorities.

Supervise, coach, and support the team members responsible for digital content.


Website Strategy and Optimization

Lead the daily management for Assumption.edu, ensuring the site is high-performing, intuitive, and continuously optimized for recruitment, brand, and content goals.

Oversee major web initiatives including redesigns, page overhauls, microsite launches, and CMS enhancements.

Use tools such as Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Siteimprove to monitor site performance, track conversions, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Ensure the website meets accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2), is mobile-first, and complies with all data privacy regulations.


Social Media and Digital Content Oversight

Provide strategic direction for institutional social media platforms to advance audience engagement, brand awareness, and real-time storytelling.

Collaborate with the digital content staff to plan and coordinate content campaigns that span web, social, and email.

Guide content creation efforts that highlight student stories, institutional achievements, and mission-driven impact.

Ensure content across platforms is optimized for discoverability (SEO), visual appeal, and brand alignment.


Governance and Team Collaboration

Help establish and maintain governance policies for web and digital content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance.

Partner with colleagues in creative services, enrollment, advancement, and IT to ensure efficient implementation of web and digital projects.

Provide training, resources, and support to campus content contributors and editors across departments.

Foster a collaborative and mission-centered digital team culture built on responsiveness, excellence, and flexibility.


Data-Driven Decision Making

Leverage analytics and performance data to inform digital strategy-with an emphasis on web traffic, user behavior, and site conversion paths-and guide continuous improvement efforts.

Translate metrics into actionable insights for leadership and cross-functional teams.

Regularly report on digital performance and recommend improvements based on user behavior and institutional priorities.


Flexibility and Team Support

Demonstrate a team-first mindset by stepping in to support projects, colleagues, and broader marketing initiatives outside core responsibilities when needed.

Requirements

  •   Bachelor's degree in marketing, digital communications, analytics, or a related field.
  •   5+ years of experience in digital strategy, web management, content strategy, or related fields.
  •   Demonstrated success leading or coordinating digital work.
  •   Hands-on experience managing institutional websites and CMS platforms.
  •   Deep understanding of SEO, content governance, accessibility standards, UX principles, and data privacy regulations.
  •   Proven track record of using analytics (GA4, etc.) to drive performance and inform decisions.
  •   Excellent writing, editing, and visual communication skills.

Preferred:

Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations.

Familiarity with web governance and optimization platforms such as Siteimprove.

Experience managing social media strategy and digital content workflows.

Knowledge of HTML/CSS and basic front-end UX best practices.

Comfort collaborating across complex organizations.

Experience managing external vendor partners.
