Job description

Experienced Software Development Engineer

Company:

The Boeing Company is looking for an Experienced Software Development Engineer to join the Government Vehicle Health Maintenance team in Hazelwood, MO. This role supports the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Software Engineering organization by developing innovative solutions to enhance platform health management.

As part of Boeing Global Services Software Engineering, you will design, implement, and maintain cloud-native microservices that capture and analyze platform health and usage data, perform automated assessments, and generate actionable maintenance recommendations. Your work will directly support mission readiness and lower lifecycle costs for platforms including F/A-18, MQ-25, F-15, T-38, T-7, and proprietary systems. Successful candidates will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle on an Agile team working within a CI/CD pipeline.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain non-embedded software across the full lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry, customer, safety, and regulatory requirements

  • Translate customer needs and requirements into initial software designs and implementation plans

  • Develop, document, and maintain software architectures, algorithms, interfaces, and detailed designs

  • Develop, integrate, and optimize software products and system integrations, including supplier-supplied components

  • Debug complex issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure product reliability and performance

  • Respond to user inquiries, troubleshoot technical problems, and incorporate user feedback into improvements

  • Research and evaluate current and emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks; recommend and implement relevant solutions

  • Establish, monitor, and improve software processes, tools, and key performance metrics to align with organizational goals and industry benchmarks

  • Plan, execute, and document software research and development initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

  • 5+ years of experience with Object Oriented Design and Programming in a high-level language like C#, .NET, Java, SQL, HTML, and CSS

  • 5+ years of experience with software development on Windows or Linux

  • 5+ years of experience developing software for containerized architectures (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes)

  • 5+ years of experience in Git

  • 5+ years of experience developing software products in a cloud environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience

  • 2+ years of experience in cyber security

  • Working knowledge of specification formats, robust change control practices, and how standards drive aircraft/product certification and compliance strategies

  • Proven ability to lead requirements derivation and allocation across system, subsystem, and software levels and demonstrate complete traceability throughout the lifecycle

  • Strong expertise in software architecture and design methodologies; able to define and validate architectures that meet complex requirements and constraints

  • Advanced capability to architect, build, integrate, optimize, and debug software components across diverse host environments; leads resolution of complex, cross-cutting issues

  • Proficiency across multiple programming paradigms and languages (higher-order, auto-coded, and assembly), plus strong database design/use and performance considerations

  • Deep experience designing and overseeing implementation, validation, and verification strategies; expert use of development/test toolchains and process improvement

  • Broad domain mastery of systems that influence software architecture and integration (aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space/ground systems); anticipates and mitigates constraints such as OS limitations, fidelity, and processing capacity
