As a Senior Development Engineer, you will become part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting Sales, Production, Procurement and Finance. Your area of responsibility will be to design and develop Loading Dock and Material Handling Equipment, including Dock Levelers and Vehicle Restraints.

Taking direction from our Engineering Manager, your main duties and responsibilities will be to design and implement in production, new pieces of equipment as well as support for lead engineers:

To generate and release manufacturing documents such as drawings to production in timely order, using Solidworks,

To generate and control part numbers and manage corresponding data,

To create and maintain Bills of Material (BOM) within our MRP System (Visual),

To coordinate releases and changes to production,

Identify and develop process improvements to support core business functions,

Lead the Product Rationalization process with respect to BOM scrubbing and reduction equipment and tooling requirements,

Assist in defining and setting up new manufacturing lines using Lean principles,

Assist in working with the Quality department define and implement manufacturing and process controls in a production environment to ensure that high level design requirements are achieved,

Assist in defining and creating process documentation (work instructions etc.),

Assist in driving the assembly and proving of initial development and pre-production units (prototypes) to ensure that design and manufacturing lessons learnt are gathered and built into the final product solution,

Actively managing and driving design change to improve manufacturability,

Prepare approval drawings and cost estimate for sales department,

Perform design calculations and analysis including Finite Element Analysis (FEA),

Create required fixtures and provide shop assistance,

Track time and progress on projects via project management software (Liquid Planner),

Other duties as assigned.

In addition, you will be required to assist the product Engineering Manager from time to time, as well as any other task requested from the senior management team.

Required Skills:

Ability to understand, define and analyze data content and generate reports,

Strong computer skills with, advanced knowledge in MS Office Suite,

Experience in an engineering environment working with multi-disciplinary projects and teams,

Knowledge of Quality Control techniques,

Knowledge of manufacturing processes and qualification requirements,

Previous exposure / knowledge of Dock Levelers and Restraints is an asset,

Logical approach to problem solving.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Using or wearing the equipment, PPE when required

Reporting to his or her supervisor and contravention of the OSHA, regulations, policies and procedures.

Reporting any observed hazards to the supervisor,

Reporting any risks or potential risks of violence or harassment encountered in the workplace immediately to supervisor,

Not removing or making ineffective any protective device without providing an adequate temporary substitute. When the work is completed, the original protective device must be replaced immediately.

Not using or operating any equipment, machine, device or thing or otherwise working in a manner that may endanger anyone,

Knowing, understanding and implementing safe work practices and procedures,

Attend all required Health and Safety training programs (ex: WHMIS, orientation), and applying knowledge to daily operating procedures .

Be a positive role model to junior team members.

Special consideration to individuals with:

3 years + experience in SolidWorks CAD,

Experience of implementing CADM processes within heavy manufacturing,

3 years + Engineering Experience (preferred in Material handling equipment and Loading Dock systems),

P.Eng designation would be considered an asset,

Technical background in hydraulic, mechanical, electrical components, • Full knowledge of Configuration and Data Management and implementation within a quality system certified to ISO 9001 would be an asset.

Education:

Degree qualified or equivalent in Engineering or Technical Sciences is required,

Membership of an information management association will be considered an asset.
