Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications

Halfway between the state's stunning Blue Ridge Mountains and famed coastline, Cabarrus County is located in south-central North Carolina in the vibrant Piedmont region. Just 20 minutes north of Uptown Charlotte, the area encompasses five unique communities that make Cabarrus County a five-star destination: the cities of Concord and Kannapolis, and towns of Harrisburg, Midland and Mount Pleasant.


SUMMARY:

The Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of all marketing, branding, communications, and promotional initiatives for the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). This leadership position plays a critical role in driving visitation, enhancing destination awareness, increasing visitor spending, and positioning Cabarrus County as a premier travel and tourism destination.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies that effectively markets Cabarrus County as a leisure destination and advocates the importance of tourism for the local economy.
  • Develop the annual marketing plan, which includes advertising, communications and public relations, digital media, collateral materials, website development and enhancement and social media opportunities.
  • Develop and implement communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to target audiences.
  • Serve as the primary steward of the Explore Cabarrus destination brand and ensure consistency across all marketing and communications channels.
  • Establish and maintain marketing agency efforts to include selection and review of creative, paid media, and public relations agencies.
  • Analyze campaign performance, visitor data, market research, and tourism analytics to optimize marketing effectiveness and ROI.
  • Works with Senior Vice President of Sales and Services to develop strategies to market Cabarrus County to group meeting planners and rights holders.
  • Builds monthly marketing reports and makes monthly presentations to the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors on the Bureau's marketing and communications strategies and activities.
  • Make presentations to local elected officials during municipal meetings as well as partners and stakeholders during partner events.
  • Responsible for overseeing a three-person marketing team including selection, onboarding, development, priorities, and workflows.
  • Attend conferences on a regional, state, and national level to maintain knowledge on latest tourism and hospitality trends.
  • Serve on tourism related committees on a regional, state, and national level to expand overall tourism impact.
  • Work within the Bureau's strategic plan to direct the improvement of the visitor experience through the enhancement of the destination product.
  • Develop the Bureau's annual report to showcase the impact of tourism to elected officials, stakeholders, and media.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and ensure responsible stewardship of marketing investments.
  • Attend and work all Bureau sponsored events to include all motorsports events.
  • Attend and participate with local community events to include festivals and other tourism related gatherings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the President/CEO.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, tourism, hospitality management, business administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (minimum five to eight years) within a destination marketing organization, convention and visitors bureau, or related hospitality and tourism sector required.
  • Experience must include strategic planning, marketing development, communications and management.
  • Willingness and ability to work weekends and evenings and be accessible to staff, agencies, clients and constituents while off duty as needed.
  • Possess excellent written, oral, grammatical and communication skills.
  • Experience with digital marketing platforms, analytics tools, CRM systems, and social media strategy.
  • Passion for tourism, hospitality, and community promotion.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to adapt to changing market conditions and consumer behaviors.
  • Some travel is required.
  • This position is fully in-office and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements.
