A design manager oversees a design team during a project and typically works in the construction and architecture industries. As a design manager, you may work for specialty companies that contract out to construction firms on a per-project basis. Or, you may spend your career working as an in-house design manager for a construction company or architect firm. Regardless of the location of your job as a design manager, your duties revolve around supervising the design of a building project and include adhering to legislation and codes, eliminating safety and financial risks, and advising clients during development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Design Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Manager, you need a strong background in design principles, project management, and leadership, typically supported by a degree in design or a related field and several years of design experience. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and project management tools like Asana or Trello is essential. Exceptional communication, team leadership, and problem-solving skills help distinguish top performers in this role. Job description

Title: AI Solutions Manager

Location: Fully Remote

Reports To: Business Transformation Lead

Expion Health is building the future of pharmacy economics. As architects of prescription economics, we design how pharmacy value is created, aligning cost, clinical decisions, and performance into one accountable system that moves beyond rebates. We help organizations stay ahead of pharmacy market change with clear insight, bold thinking, and strategies built for what's next-leading the next era of prescription economics.

The Role

As our AI Solutions Manager, you'll be the technical engine behind our AI transformation: taking the workflow opportunities our teams identify and turning them into working, production-ready AI solutions that people actually use every day.

You'll work hands-on with Claude, Copilot, and automation platforms to build AI-powered workflows, integrations, and tools across our departments. You'll be a close partner to our Business Transformation Lead, our CTO, and our IT team - translating business problems into technical solutions without losing sight of the people who'll use them. If you love building, you're fluent in the modern AI tooling landscape, and you want to work somewhere that moves fast and takes this seriously, this is your role.

What You'll Own

  • Build & Ship Solutions (65%)
    • Design, build, and deploy AI-powered workflow solutions across Expion's departments - from intelligent document processing to automated reporting to LLM-assisted analytics
    • Configure and optimize AI tools including Claude (Anthropic), Microsoft Copilot, and no-code/low-code automation platforms (Power Automate, Zapier, Make) for specific business use cases
    • Develop prompt engineering frameworks and reusable AI workflow templates that AI Champions and department teams can build on
    • Partner with IT on solutions that need to scale beyond a single team - API integrations, data connections, and anything that becomes a shared organizational asset
    • Evaluate and experiment with new AI tools and capabilities as they emerge, and bring back what's worth using
    • Own the technical layer of the AI Champions program - helping champions go from idea to working prototype
  • Analytics & Data Enablement (20%)
    • Work with Finance, Clinical, Operations, Client Management, and Trade teams to identify datasets that are AI-ready and build first analytics use cases on top of them
    • Build AI-assisted reporting and querying tools that turn fragmented data into actionable insight
    • Partner with the broader analytics and data team to identify infrastructure gaps that limit AI capability, and help define the path to address them
    • Support the product and engineering team in embedding AI into the development workflow - code review, documentation, test generation, and spec acceleration
  • Collaborate & Communicate (15%)
    • Work closely with the Business Transformation Lead to connect workflow discovery to technical execution
    • Translate technical solutions for non-technical stakeholders - making it clear what was built, how it works, and what it changes
    • Document solutions and build reusable assets that make the organization's AI capability compound over time
    • Contribute to AI Spark sessions and internal community events to share what you're building and learning

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience building with AI tools - not just using them, but configuring, customizing, and deploying them to solve real business problems
  • Fluent with LLM-based tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot), no-code/low-code automation platforms, and API-level integrations
  • Strong prompt engineering skills - you know how to get reliable, production-quality outputs from language models
  • Experience building workflow automations that non-technical users can actually operate and trust
  • Comfortable working across the business/technical boundary - you can sit with a Finance analyst or a Clinical lead, understand their problem, and build the right solution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can explain what you built and why it matters without drowning people in jargon
  • Self-directed and resourceful - you don't need a detailed spec to get started, and you know how to figure things out
  • Thrives in fast-paced, startup-like environments where the roadmap evolves and ambiguity is normal

Preferred:

  • Experience in healthcare, health plans, pharmacy benefits, or adjacent industries
  • Familiarity with data infrastructure concepts - SQL, data pipelines, BI tools - and experience connecting AI tools to data sources
  • Experience working alongside software engineering teams and understanding of software development workflows (CI/CD, code review, documentation tooling)
  • Background in business analysis, solutions architecture, or technical consulting
  • Experience with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), vector databases, or building AI tools that work with proprietary data
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 ecosystem and Power Platform

Why Expion, Why Now

Most AI roles at this level ask you to advise, assess, or document. This one asks you to build. You'll have a clear mandate, an exec team that's genuinely excited, and a company that's in the perfect position to lead in this space - specialized domain expertise, real data, and a culture that rewards moving fast and improving relentlessly.

You'll work alongside a second AI Solutions Manager and report directly to our Business Transformation Lead, with direct access to department leaders, IT, and the data that powers our business. You'll see your work in use across every department within months of starting.

Our values say it best: Build boldly, improve relentlessly. If that resonates with how you want to work, we want to talk.

Benefits & Perks

  • 100% remote – work anywhere in the US
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • HSA & FSA options
  • Access to GLP-1 weight loss program
  • Short & long-term disability
  • Life Insurance and AD&D
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off
