Primary Purpose
To teach classes in Digital Design as assigned.
Description of Essential Functions
Teaching (90% of Time)
- Teach various courses in Digital Design.
- Use instructional methodology appropriate to the audience and to the student (e.g., lecture, demonstration, group discussion, technology-enhanced delivery, computer-assisted delivery, and distance delivery). Must be able to explain and deliver materials in a variety of ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning activities.
- Evaluate students in accordance with the criteria in the course outline and other applicable college policies and procedures. Is responsible for turning in grades according to college policy and procedure.
- Create a course syllabus for each course taught which includes, but is not limited to, course outcomes, course structure, materials to be covered, grading criteria, due dates for materials, exam dates and office hours.
- Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, demonstrating an ability to work with others in a courteous and cooperative fashion.
- Ensure compliance with all Southwestern Oregon Community College rules, regulations, and policies.
- Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of teaching techniques.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Digital Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Web Design, Motion Graphics, or a closely related field
OR
Associate's Degree in a field related to Digital Design AND substantive professional experience in digital media production, web design, or motion graphics.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted; accreditation must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for the required degree.
Required Experience:
- Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
- Working knowledge of UI/UX design principles, web design fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and content management systems such as WordPress or Webflow.
- Ability to teach and apply branding, typography, layout design, and digital imaging concepts in practical, project-based coursework.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), ethical design practices, and file optimization for web, print, and motion media.
- Demonstrated ability to engage diverse learners in hands-on, technology-based instruction across multiple delivery formats (in-person, hybrid, and online).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Digital Design, Multimedia, Web Design, Motion Graphics, or a related discipline.
- Two (2) or more years of college-level teaching experience, preferably in a community college or applied learning environment.
- Professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Graphic design, branding, or digital marketing
- Motion graphics, animation, or visual effects using Adobe After Effects
- UI/UX or interactive media design (Figma, Adobe XD, prototyping)
- Web design and front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, Webflow)
- Familiarity with Adobe Certified Professional, Google UX Design, or Webflow/WordPress certification standards.
- Experience mentoring students in portfolio development and career readiness for digital design.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive design, accessibility, and equity-centered teaching.
- Industry certifications or professional achievements demonstrating expertise in digital design, web development, or motion graphics.
