ABOUT THE ROLE

The Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Distribution Center Director. The Safety coordinator will work with Operations Leadership and with warehouse associates across the building to support a strong proactive safety culture and an effective, efficient, and compliant safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations to avoid accidents, while raising morale and promoting the inclusion of newcomers.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

Salaried: $68,000 - $78,000 (Based on experience)

Monday - Friday, Full-Time

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Maintains thorough working knowledge of S&S Activewear, policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and company safety guidelines. Communicate and maintain S&S Activewear safety culture.
  • Implement, enforce, and oversee 6S in all areas of the warehouse.
  • Drives and participates in organizational safety initiatives and processes as scheduled. Implement safety plans and programs while ensuring that they are being followed consistently enforcing the safe behaviors and making sure they are being recognized
  • Maintain all safety training & related documentation as required by S&S Activewear and Federal standards.
  • Develop and oversee facility auditing process to verify Safety Programs compliance and identify training needs and areas of opportunity. Provide safety training and feedback as required.
  • Provide new hire safety orientation. Coordinates all preparation steps, including training records, employee review of safety policies and procedures for employee orientation and Warehouse Safety Training.
  • Train employees on safety standards and expectations as well as oversee safe machinery operation.
  • Conducts all necessary safety training for new and existing employees, including refresh training and re-training upon accidents for ongoing employee safety training and development. (no machine certifications)
  • Conduct New Hires tour.
  • Monthly Conduct a hazard assessment in all areas of the warehouse. Provide detailed reports on observations and provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace
  • Lead safety walks and inspections for safety committee members.
  • Verify compliance with preoperational safety inspections.
  • Investigate accidents that occur onsite, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Follow up on corrective actions and close the item when complete.
  • In the event of an accident with property damage the Safety coordinator will be responsible to secure the area/equipment and to submit a detailed report of the damages. Responsible to secure the area, equipment and lock out /tag out it if necessary. If the damage occurred in racking, will take the necessary steps to secure the area and to avoid it becomes in an unsafe condition.
  • As the primary contact following accidents, will be responsible of the notification of these events to Ops management and HR.
  • Assist with investigation / resolution of safety reports. Ensure the timely completion of incident reporting and the proper and timely feedback and/or corrective action for associates.
  • Respond immediately to Unsafe condition reports
  • Act as a liaison between management and external safety agencies, such as fire department and other instances to procure effective safety training for the building.
  • Organize and facilitate Safety Committees and ensure the active participation of all members, record open items, and follow up to complete and close them.
  • Schedule and document safety audits, Fire Drills, safety inspections, safety reviews and tests for various types of equipment and PPE, including heavy equipment and mobile equipment, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, entry and exit doors, and safety and security items, etc.
  • Maintain a MSDS board
  • Appointed person for Support and/or administer first aid
  • Attends periodic seminars, training programs, conferences, as required 24. Submit reports as required on all safety issues, corrective actions, and the status of the different task in which ones they are working
  • Accomplish critical metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged safety culture in the warehouse
  • This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list. There may be additional responsibilities that are assigned to this role which are not included above.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Associate Degree (preferably)
  • 6S Knowledge (preferably)
  • 1 year experience in a warehouse environment (preferably)
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to perform site and field inspections inside S&S Activewear facilities location.
  • Computer (word, excel, Power Point) skills
  • Proven basic trainer/facilitator skills and the ability to create training curriculum, conduct training sessions, and instruct safety classes.
  • Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision – self directed
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Flexible schedule
  • Job will be performed in the warehouse. It’s not an office position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

In performing the job the employee must stand and walk for an 8+ hour shift. Additionally, the position requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and handling of items up to 50 lbs. Moderate Hand-Eye coordination, near vision, far vision and hearing is required for the operation of warehouse machinery.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • The job will be performed entirely in the warehouse where conditions can range from warm to cool.
  • The job will be performed around warehouse machines and equipment with a moderate level of noise.
