Job description

Position Summary:

The College and Career Advisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of college and career advising at TCA. This position will work with both students and parents to provide pertinent information related to the area of college and career advisement.

Job Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Student and Parent
    • Provides College and Career counseling to students and families, providing guidance with decisions regarding academic, career, and personal goals
    • Works cooperatively with parents, teachers, deans, and administrators for the benefit of the individual student
    • Aids student to find a course of study directed toward educational progress and helps the individual student to be aware of the course of study he/she must follow in

order to fulfill graduation requirements

  • Host quarterly college and career talks/events
  • Meet with all seniors in the first quarter of year and continue ongoing correspondence throughout the year
  • Meet with all juniors during spring semester
  • Meet with sophomores and freshman each year and begin planning for college and career
  • Acts as a consultant to the deans and administrators in decisions concerning a student's progress
  • PSAT/SAT/CLT and Scheduling
    • Assists the administration and deans in the development of the master schedule; create and provide schedules to all students.
    • Reports on College and Career Readiness outcomes using data
    • Order and host testing for all appropriate students
    • Plan and host multiple test prep sessions
  • College and Career Plans
    • Assists students in the transition to post-secondary training or education, including written recommendations, helping in the application process, and distributing educational and scholarship information
    • Recommends special activities involving community resources and activities, as needed
  • Serves as a site liaison to work with local and national colleges and universities, to ensure that students are finding success in their college coursework
  • Oversees college tours, planning 2 each year for sophomores, juniors, and seniors
  • Looks for strategies to streamline department and create effective processes within the department
  • Create and update school profile annually
  • Create and update list of conservative colleges to be published on the school website
  • Senior spotlight โ€“ highlight and promote each individual senior during the school year through the schoolโ€™s social media
  • Alumni
    • Create list of alumni and track their progress and accomplishments
    • Highlight and promote graduates of TCA through the schoolโ€™s social media
    • Begin formulating ideas for alumni newsletter to keep alumni and their families connected to TCA
  • Generate list of scholarship opportunities
  • Share information regarding Bright Futures with all high schoolers
  • Career options
    • Create list of career/vocational options for kids
    • Military - have recruiters come to visit
    • Research and create list of gap year programs


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree; Master's Degree preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in admissions OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check
