What is a Deaf Plus professional?

'Deaf Plus' refers to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and have one or more additional disabilities or conditions, such as cognitive, physical, or developmental challenges. Professionals who work with Deaf Plus individuals provide support tailored to the unique communication, educational, and accessibility needs of this population. Their roles may include advocacy, teaching, interpreting, or providing specialized therapeutic services to help Deaf Plus individuals reach their fullest potential in various settings. These professionals often collaborate with families, educators, and healthcare providers to create inclusive environments. Understanding the intersection of deafness with other disabilities is essential for providing effective support.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Deaf Plus professional?

To thrive as a Deaf Plus professional, you need expertise in your occupational field combined with the ability to navigate additional disabilities beyond deafness, often supported by relevant education and accommodations.
