Eaton’s CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Engineering Specialist - DC Power Systems Research.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $122000 - $179000 a year.

What you’ll do: Job Summary:

Eaton Research Labs (ERL), part of Eaton's Chief Technology Office, is seeking an Engineering Specialist to lead research and technology development in future DC power systems. Areas of focus include data center power architectures, DC distribution systems, hybrid AC/DC networks, DC protection, power quality, and energy transition technologies. Candidates are not expected to possess expertise across all areas. Deep expertise in one or more domains combined with demonstrated ability to learn adjacent technologies is highly valued.

This is a high-impact research role for someone who wants to apply power electronics and power systems knowledge into next generation DC applications challenges. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing technologies that support AI-driven data centers, grid modernization, resiliency, and electrification across Eaton's global portfolio.

In this role you will:
  • Lead advanced research programs focused on next-generation DC power systems.
  • Develop control, protection, and resiliency strategies for DC and hybrid AC/DC systems.
  • Lead government-funded and internally funded research projects.
  • Collaborate with Eaton businesses, universities, national laboratories, and industry partners.
  • Author patents, invention disclosures, technical reports, and publications.
  • Present technical results to leadership, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and researchers.

Qualifications: Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus 9+ years of industrial/entrepreneurial experience after Master’s in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in the relevant and adjacent areas: ( data center power architectures, DC distribution systems, hybrid AC/DC networks, DC protection, power quality, and energy transition technologies)

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution plus 4+ years of industrial/entrepreneurial/academic experience after Ph.D. in researching, developing and designing technology solutions in the same relevant and adjacent areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should possess deep expertise in at least one area and working knowledge of multiple adjacent domains from the following list:

  • DC – LV power system design / 800 -1500 VDC
  • DC system controls
  • Hybrid AC/DC architectures
  • Data center power systems
  • DC microgrids
  • Protection and control of power systems
  • Power electronics converters and controls
  • Possess a good foundation in power electronics dominated energy system design and operation.
Skills: Position Criteria:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
