Job description

Position Summary:

Schwartz Electric seeks an experienced Lead DC Installer to supervise, install, and maintain DC power systems for telecommunications, data centers, network infrastructure, and critical facility projects. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with DC power plants, battery systems, rectifiers, grounding, cabling, and associated hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

DC Power Plant Installation:

  • Lead installation of DC power plants, rectifiers, battery strings, distribution bays, and related equipment.
  • Perform hot cuts and power transitions as required by project scope.
  • Install and terminate power cables, including taping, pulling, and lug crimping.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and site blueprints.

Cabling & Termination:

  • Supervise and lead the pulling of large gauge DC cable (2 AWG โ€“ 750 MCM) to racks, bays, or equipment.
  • Apply insulation taping techniques and protective coverings per industry standards.
  • Install lugs using proper crimp tools; verify torque specs and bonding/grounding.
  • Test cable continuity and polarity.

Battery & Backup Systems:

  • Install, test, and commission valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) and lithium-ion battery systems.
  • Perform battery rack assembly and intercell cabling.
  • Conduct battery acceptance tests and document results.

Site Supervision & Safety:

  • Oversee a crew of installers and apprentices, ensuring quality and safety compliance.(PPE etc.)
  • Perform daily job briefings, tool box talks, and site inspections.
  • Enforce NEC, NEBS, and OSHA standards at all times.

Testing & Commissioning:

  • Perform voltage checks, load tests, grounding tests, and verify proper power distribution.
  • Complete site acceptance documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve power plant issues onsite.

Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed as-built records, redline drawings, and daily progress logs.
  • Complete material and labor usage reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of DC power installation experience (telecom or critical facilities).
  • Proven track record leading installation crews on power plant projects.
  • Proficiency with cable pulling, lugging, taping, splicing, and labeling.
  • Familiarity with rectifiers, inverters, converters, batteries, and grounding systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, rack elevation drawings, and wiring schematics.
  • Strong understanding of DC theory, Ohmโ€™s Law, voltage drop, fuse sizing, and load balancing.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to travel to remote sites.

  • Strong leadership and crew management skills.
  • High attention to detail, craftsmanship, and installation neatness.
  • Professional communication with customers and inspectors.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and nights/weekends as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., climb ladders, work in confined spaces and elevated areas.

Preferred Experience:

  • Certified in DC power systems installation (e.g., BICSI, DC Power Certified Installer).
  • Prior experience with manufacturers such as Vertiv, Eltek, Emerson, or GE power systems.
  • Familiarity with fiber rack and overhead ladder rack installation.
