Position Summary

Mt. Gilead Camp and Conference Center is seeking a dedicated and energetic Female Summer Camp Cook for the 2026 season. The Summer Camp Cook serves as a vital leader in our kitchen, guiding a motivated team to provide quality meals in a warm, hospitable environment.
At Mt. Gilead Camp, we believe in servant leadership. The Summer Camp Cook focuses on kitchen execution and dining hall management while leading and working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff. You will be the captain of a collaborative unit, ensuring our campers are well-fed and our facilities remain safe, clean, and organized. This role is perfect for someone who loves to cook, lead, and grow within a supportive Christian community.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborative Food Preparation & Service
  • Meal Execution: Leading and working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff, the Summer Camp Cook prepares, cooks, and serves all scheduled meals and snacks on time.
  • Team Supervision: You will provide clear, encouraging direction to the kitchen team, assigning tasks to ensure meal prep and service run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Special Diets: Collaborating with and guiding the kitchen team, you will oversee the preparation of alternative items for campers with allergies or dietary needs using provided resources.
Shared Kitchen & Dining Hall Operations
  • Daily Cleanliness: Leading and working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff, the Summer Camp Cook oversees the deep cleaning and organization of the Dining Hall and kitchen.
  • Delivery & Logistics: Leading and working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff, you will manage the arrival of food deliveries, supervising the team in the unloading and proper storage of all supplies.
  • Inventory Management: You will oversee tracking of food stock and dry goods, ensure the team keeps storage areas organized, and notify management when supplies are low.
  • Safety & Compliance: Leading the kitchen team in maintaining a safe environment, you will ensure daily refrigerator and freezer temperature logs are completed, and all American Camping Association standards are met.

Leadership & Community Teamwork

  • Mentorship: The Summer Camp Cook acts as a mentor to the summer camp kitchen staff, offering patience and guidance to those who may be new to a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Atmosphere: Leading and working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff, you will create a positive, inclusive, and FUN atmosphere during the day..

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Spiritual Maturity: A mature Christian woman who values community and is eager to lead and work alongside other summer camp kitchen staff to contribute to the harmony of the camp.
  • Skills:
    • Natural leadership ability with a focus on teamwork and encouragement.
    • Good organizational skills and comfort with standard kitchen devices.
    • Ability to follow established recipes and provide menus accurately.
  • Certifications: ServSafe Certificate is preferred, but not required for the Summer Camp Cook.
  • Physical/Availability:
    • Working alongside other summer camp kitchen staff, you must have the physical stamina to manage kitchen tasks in a busy environment.
    • Ability to work a flexible summer schedule as a leader within the camp family.
